Hello!

I've just had my car horn repaired at a garage today, the receipt states:

Ford Mondeo. Carried out repair on the horn circuits. Trace faulty relay. Fit new part. Recheck base termination also horn multi-pump valves.

They charged £90 for labour, £13.66 for the new relay and £20.73 VAT, making it £124.39 to replace that relay!

Seems a bit dear to me... what do you more motor-savvy people think? And if it is exorbitant, what rights do I have as a consumer (seeing that I've already paid)?

Many thanks! :)

Was this at a Ford garage or an independant garage?

How long did it take them? That looks like 1hr 30mins of labour charge from a Ford dealership (pretty sure my local Ford dealership charges £60 an hour labour).

If they had it a couple of hours (including the testing) it looks about right.
  • It wasn't at a Ford garage, but it was an 'auto electrics' garage... £60 is pretty expensive :(

Don't you mean you took your car to a sparkie and asked him to fix the non-working horn?
He has been too literal in his invoice, he should have detailed customer complaint, diagnosed fault, charged for replacement part, charged for fitting and added the VAT.
That would account for the diagnostics time, checking off all the components and the continuity in between.

Seems fair to me if he had to find the fault first.

its not having a hammer its knowing where to hit things with it

some posts in this section really do make me wonder sometimes, just like customers saying give it a a bit of a service
now which bit do you want servicing?

to conclude price seems very very fair to me

It seems a fair price to me to be honest. A garage has to make a living too don't forget :)

Seems garages are to do work for free according to some or work for cost as they do not need to earn a wage or pay the bills.

Is your garage located in a city or a town or a village?
