OK
Try this.
Unplug the printer
Download CC Cleaner from here
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
Install and run this program
There are four options on the left of the screen
Cleaner / Registry / Tools / Options
First, go to Cleaner and click 'run cleaner' (bottom right)
When the green bar at the top gets to 100%, then click on Tools on the left, then there are four options. Uninstall, Start Up, System Restore and Drive Wiper
Click on the on the Uninstall option then look in the list of 'programs to remove' and remove any than mention HP (Hewlett Packard) by clicking on them individually and then clicking on 'run uninstaller' on the right.
If it asks 'do you want to restart' then say 'no'.
When you have uninstalled all of the HP stuff, then close down CC Cleaner and then restart your computer
When it has restarted fully, make sure that you are connected to the internet and then plug back in your printer and make sure it is switched on.
Hopefully, windows will recognise the printer and install the correct drivers.
If it does not, then maybe go to the site that was suggested by macman

We can point you to the correct drivers if you tell us the exact model (not just the series-there are 5 models under that). No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I did the cleaner as you suggested JB I removed all the HP stuff and turned off and started again. I installed the HP printer again. I think I followed the instructions correctly. It is still not working allthough the printer is trying to work.
I am just going to order new ink just incase that is the problem. i will feel such an idiot if this turns out to be the problem. I do think the ink levels are ok but have to try everything. I order ink on line as i live out in the sticks so it will be a couple of days before i can find out.please can I get back to you all when i have installed the new ink cartridges. I will let you know either way. THANKYOU0 -
Not enough info. Tell us how you installed the software for W7. Did you download it from HP support or did you let W7 find it for you?
Why do you 'think' the ink levels are OK? You can check by using the HP utility that shows you the current ink levels, this should work just as it did under XP.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I installed the W7. via the link you gave me macman. Also I couldn't find the utility that shows the ink levels. Would this be because I didn't purchase HP ink cartridges but some cheaper cartridges.
The model number is : F2480.
I have to be away from this pc until early evening.
please help me sort it later when i get back if possible THANKYOU every one.0 -
OK - try this then
In the search box, above the start button, type 'device manager'
Open device manager and find your printer.
Right click on it and click 'uninstall'
Then reboot and see if it will find the correct drivers this time.
Otherwise, I'm stuffed, sorry0
