My printer doesn't work with my new laptop

Options
Advice needed please. My HP deskjet F2400 doesn't work with my new toshiba laptop. Can anyone help me find out what I am doing wrong. I have installed the printer and it says 4 documents waiting to print. I get flashing small orange lights on the front of the printer and the paper comes out blank. I have installed the ink cartridges and connected the leads.
Hope some one can help I am not to clever with my laptop or printer. THANKYOU!

Can you elaborate please? What exactly have you installed? The drivers? The HP software that allows you to print?

Have you removed the seals from the cartridges ?

Is your new laptop running Windows 7? If so, have you installed the correct printer drivers for this OS?
If you previous machine ran another OS, thne it won't work unless you do this.
Is the correct printer selected as the default printer in Control Panel and 'online' when you right-click it?

Drivers are the software that make the printer works with the computer. Drivers are operating system-specific. So if your old desktop ran XP or Vista, the drivers for that won't work with W7. You'll need to download and install the drivers for W7 for your specific printer from the HP support site.

Have you installed the W7 drivers or not? You can turn off the pop up blocker in your web browser settings (depends which browser).

Can we start again at the beginning :)

You got a new laptop. How did you 'install' the printer?

Did you just plug it in and windows said 'ahah, here's a new printer, I'll install it for you'?

    Or

Did you put in the CD that you got with the printer and do it that way???

And if you used the CD that you got with it, which operating systems did that cover? If it's more than a couple of years old, it won't include W7.
Here's the link to download W7 drivers for your model-you'll need to know if you are running 32 bit or 64 bit W7.

thanks for helping me everyone. I used the cd that came with my printer to install it. Your right my old pc was xp and this laptop is windows 7 and 32 bit . I am very slow at replying because it takes me a long time to do this. I went on to hp.com site that macman gave me but still didn't manage to get the printer working it said the printer was off line. it is very complicated for me but i am going to start again and see if i can get it working. i am grateful for every one helping me. and i will reply how ever long it takes me to fix it.
