I had my first appointment on wednesday was in a better mood when i came out, but the week before my JC advisor said for me to use them for the things i need and they have the funding too. But problem is now i have to prove myself to two lots of people now.

I will only be signing at the jobcentre so all I have to do it tell them the jobs I have applied for as they have passed me over to another company.

They may offer the courses, but in my experience the courses are universally awful. Perhaps you've gotten lucky and ended up at the provider that isn't just a barely concealed scam.

I want to a sage course to get me a 'gap' job until I can follow my dream as many ask for payroll/sage experience I have been told they can offer this and have funding to pay for other courses but will see what they say.

I worked for JCP before the WP came into force, I remember customers hated A4E but were pleased with TNG and TNG were the ones who really seemed to help customers and go the extra mile. I've been referred to a new one in the area, ironically I have just applied for a job with them :rotfl:

I am sorry but as someone from an accounts background doing a course in Sage will not get you a job. You need experience in a job using Sage. A course is not worth it if you have no accounts experience. Then of course not everyone uses Sage at work.

I did do a very good Interview skills course through the JC, I used to teach Interview skills so there weren't many things I didn't already know but had I not got a great CV or known what to have done I would have learnt a lot. I think this was due to having a great instructor. I was able to corner him afterwards and ask some more complicated questions about my CV, I was the only one there who not only had a CV, but actually knew what one was.

I was excited at the WP as they said I could do language courses, but only if I paid for them at the civilian rate through LearnDirect. Not sure what the point of that was? I had visions of becoming fluent in Norwegian or Swahili while I was signing on.

I would go and take out of it what you can. If you need access to computers, printers, photocopiers, local papers and lots of jobs in warehouses then it'll offer a lot! But even when I saw my (useless) advisor, she did at least go through a whole lot of things I could do, like LinkedIn. However I was already on top of all of this.

But as with anything, take from it what you can. I didn't get offered a relaxation course, and they won't pay for driving lessons!

Good luck and use it to your best advantage.

But you could get some voluntary experience, I am on the board of a charity providing after school clubs and it costs us quite a lot to pay a contractor to do the sage part of getting the accounts in order for the auditors. Not a technical person so may excuse the terminology. Lots of charities would love this type of support, so maybe you can see if your work experience could be in this area.

Had an appointment today and have been referred to the work program which.

Initial opinion is that it doesn't sound half as bad as people make out.

I want to do some training, interview coaching etc which they can offer me.

On the work experience side my adviser said if I wanted to try something new I could go for it, eventually I want a career with horses/animals so it is a possible to get work experience in those areas.

Apparently they also offer relaxation courses etc too, wonder if they will pay for driving lessons :A

I was initially worried but not so much now and I am looking forward to seeing what help is available.

When was this and where was I.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

That would be of interest, as so many employers expect you to have 'sage' etc experience but nobody will give you experience.

We are going to end up a nation of 60 year olds with experience not being able to retire because anyone under 60 won't have any experience and employers won't give anyone a chance to gain that experience.

What about the employers that use SUN, Agresso, Dynamics, SAP, Pegausus Opera, JD Edwards, IBM AS400, Tetra 2000 or Mentor etc? Only a company who uses Sage will want recent expereince in the work place. I have 4 years experience in Sage but because it's not current not many employers will interview on that basis.

So who trains these people in other payroll systems, I have seen so many admin positions asking for sage or payroll experience yet have only seen courses in sage.

I have been told they can't help me. There is no help they can give me, final. They told me there is nothing we can tell you that you aren't already doing.

I am 'interview ready' and can not believe anyone wouldn't be!

Goodness gracious me. Someone is having a good day and all you can come up with is a week of wet Sundays. Your own subjective view may not actually be the whole world's view you know. Perhaps not all work progamme providers are the same. Perhaps not all unemployed people are the same. After all, most people who really want to work wouldn't turn down a chance at a job just because some agency didn't think they were the ideal candidate the first time around. Maybe if you hadn't been so picky you could have been in work by now. And maybe you are interview ready but it isn't doing you much good if you aren't getting interviews is it?

I think it's great if the OP has found her interview useful and I hope she will get the opportunities she's looking for. She's obviously excited and hopes to make the best of it, and I for one wish her well and hope it works out for her. it's easy to be negative about everything and a lot harder to be willing to be up for trying to do something positive. Good for the OP for being the latter.
