OP I assumed that your employer, in the interests of "fairness" like a lot of other company car operators, used the list price criteria, is that right? If so and the only other condition is it has to be a diesel, other issues are irrelevant as I presume they will be fueling, insuring, taxing and servicing it at their expense.

Yes that's right, they offer all employees in my position the same budget. They will be paying for business fuel, servicing,insurance etc.
In terms of CO2 emissions, I am looking for a good balance between the tax coatings and performance. I just wish the budget was nearer 25k, as would be many more options open to me!
