My son is 10 and his dla is up for renewal. i sent him forms off just before xmas as his renewal ran out on the 14th march. on the 13th i got a letter saying they were writing to the school and gp.
this worries me as last time 3 years ago they wrote to school then decided because they didnt mention jacks feeding tube that he did have one. the DM on the phone actually asked me if i was sure that he had one. i was told his behaviour was fine accordding to school.
jack does have adhd but is medicated and this isnt the reason we claim. jack has high care needs. he has seizures that can happen anytime he bumps himself. he is fed via a gastrostomy tube and has joint problems.
we send in report on report from his doctors and therapists and everyone yet they only ever check on his behaviour.
im just whinging really that it has taken so long and they are pulling up all this.
the question about behavioural problems is that his sister is exactly the same, they have the same genetic problems and tube feeds and doctors and i send in all the same letters yet she doesnt have adhd and we have never ever had this trouble.
she has had high care without ever contacting school.
any thoughts?

have you put on the forms that you are claiming for his behaviour? Otherwise, why would they be asking you about it and saying the school says he's fine? When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

i told them everything as you should. he does has beahvioural problems when not medicated which make his care harder that he needs.
do you not think it would be odd if i just left it all out and then they read his letters with his diagnosis on and his medication on and his doctors all mention it.0 -
it isnt a simple as that. of course money wont make him miraculously better but it can help to provide things needed. like extra help. repair things that get broken etc.
would you rather beleives it buys them ipads and whatever is the status symbol these days.
like i said in the op my sons care needs go way beyond behaviour but money wont make them better either but will make life easier. i dont see the difference really. whatever the disability whether you can see if or not is still a disability.0 -
permanent double vision, and 10% vision in one eye isn't counted as a disability, but a kid with ADHD does? Quel surprise!are you serious? not that much surely?? really?
that could explaing the sudden surge of diagnosis in the last 15 years or so then?
I'm shocked, almost to the point of being speechlessWell you see, the thing is I WORK for my living in a shop. I see it day in day out. 95% of them are taking the mick.

Well in that case leave other people alone, those less fortunate than yourself, and it proves a point, having a nice house and nice life certainly doesnt stop some from being bitter nasty pieces of work.not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0 -
To be fair I don't see why you mention the ADHD if it causes so much bother and he'd get high care anyway. I don't mention my hearing aids on DLA forms or my autism because it causes more bother than its worth and wouldn't increase my award.0

When I applied, the form said "mention everything/list all medicines, treatments", so I did, even though I was only claiming for one disability. I do agree it's better not to, but they do tell you to.0
