hmm, I'm not too excited by my Birchbox.. I like 1 item but one I can't use, due to a skin condition that I put in my questionnaire, but they are sending me a replacement, which is nice.. I think last months was way better and a lot more generous!
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

July's BB box was great but the August one not so much.

I signed up to the Living Social deal so I can't grumble as the boxes work out the be a about £6 each.

I have also signed up to Glossybox. I think that is one of the better ones that is available x

this is the box I got a couple of weeks ago I was really impressed. if you buy a $23 box there will be no customs because it works out to be under £15 and the $29 boxes works out about £18 so only £3 over the £15 mark so not much customs charge on it.

So if I ordered one over the £15, how do I pay the customs charge?

    Thanks x

I've not seen a recent review where anyone has said they've had to pay customs to be honest. There are two UK bloggers I know that buy almost every Memebox going and they've not mentioned incurring any extra charges. Hope this helps!
  • I've ordered over 10 memeboxes and never had any custom charges x

It does.... I'll risk the 3 quid then. Now, which one to choose? X

This is what I found in the HMRC webpage

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm

"If you order or purchase goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you have to pay:
    • Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
    • import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under."

    and this bit as well:

"Some Internet sellers outside the EU have arrangements with the UK whereby you pay them the VAT that's due on the goods you're ordering. They then pay the VAT to their postal authority - which in turn pays it to HM Revenue & Customs. Note that these sellers must be authorised to do this. They'll have a special number that will be on the Customs Declaration. The declaration should also carry a message saying 'Import VAT pre-paid'. When this arrangement is used you won't be charged any import VAT or a Royal Mail handling fee when you get your parcel."

I couldn't see in my memebox receipt if I paid VAT to memebox, but I ordered a box costing less than £15.

I found also this webpage to calculate duty but I don't know if it is accurate and if there is a trick with memebox since the company is american but ships from south korea, south korean products.
