Same here, it seemed a normal FB page then when it asked to update my location it turned red and said Phishing site0 -

I have tried facebook market place, maybe you need to have lots and lots of friends for it to work? I got very few sales leads from the baby pushchairs/prams I was trying to sell.
Just generally browsing it and the emails I get about it seem to imply that I am interested in things in Westminster London whereas I live just outside the M25, hardly a local area considering how big London is. But I suppose to an American company it doesn't matter!0 -
I've just had a look at Facebook "marketplace". With one or two exceptions, it appears to be comprised of local estate agent listings. Not exactly interesting or useful to me.0

I've just had a look at it. It's no use whatsoever to me. I live opposite Wales. It's only about 5 miles from my house to Cardiff centre. However, if I am buying or selling furniture, I don't want to have to swim across to Wales to get my stuff!
Rubbish.
There are lots of local selling groups in my area. These are absolutely brilliant and I've made a LOT of money clearing out unwanted, useless rubbish in the last month. I have been blocked though from one and am not sure why. My friend said that the same happened to her and someone had to add her again (I think a friend had to nominate her or something?). This is a county one though. We now have a town one which seems to be really taking off in the last couple of days.
I will continue to list stuff on there. After all, if I'm photographing stuff to go on ebay, I might as well stick it up on fb too whilst I wait for a FLW to go live.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
I didn't know that this actual Market Place thing existed either, but I also have local groups for buying/selling/swapping/giving away etc. In fact there are too any really and new ones keep popping up, which gets annoying when people post in several of them, then forget where they've posted, and I've seen things I wanted to buy but turns out they had sold in a different group the previous week but they had forgotten to take it off every group.
I've made a bit selling on there - I usually try some things on there first before Ebay as I hate the packing of parcels, so it's much easier. Also can get more for things sometime as there are no postage costs for the buyer to take into account so will pay more for the actual item. Alot of people want things for hardly anything though and will make ridiculous offers, which I've seen a lot of people accept because they wanted to clear things and probably thought Facebook was the best way regardless. I'm a big Ebay user though so wouldn't accept a silly low price if I thought I could try it for more on there or somewhere else.
Definitely advertise it at a slightly higher price than you want though, same as with bootfairs so you can haggle when someone tries it on!
Same as with Ebay - put a nice photo with the item. I've seen so many photos of a toy in the middle of a messy cluttered room, which makes it more difficult to see what it actually is and the condition. I've seen dirty floors etc in the pics which would put me right off buying as I would think they may not be likely to have taken care of their things! Also clothes - iron them before taking a photo!! Really annoys me on any selling place when they look tatty and messy, it's not a big lot of effort.Half of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700 -
I think this thread is confusing as there is this official Facebook Marketplace which seems pretty naff and a load of local Facebook groups for buying and selling which seem great.
Is this thread supposed to be about one or the other or both?0 -
Perhaps worth cross referencing to this thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3887455
It's not just eBay where things can go wrong.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
