Digital Help Scheme fraud?

My 90-year-old aunt who lives in Kent received a letter from the Switchover Help Scheme offering help. She called and said she would like help please and an appointment was made. When the man arrived he said he would fit a set-top box. She told him she did not need one as she had a brand new TV and she was already watching freeview. He insisted that she needed one, ready for the switchover in June. She was not asked to pay anything but now has the inconvenience of using two remotes. Apparently other neighbours she knows have had the same experience. This is wrong surely? Or is there something I don't understand?

Digital help scheme is a joke, could have been great if they used staff or company's that had ANY knowledge or experience of the aerial trade.

Clearly they are paid per job and are padding out the work, at least they didn't carry out any physical work on the property as it is normally diabolically poor, they are a bloody disgrace.

But she does not have the inconveinace of two remotes just throw the stb in the bin and tune the TV in yourself.

So a company working for the Help Scheme are fitting set-top boxes unnecessarily to earn extra money (from the BBC?). That needs reporting. Who to? The Help Scheme?

Did they fit a freeview box or a free sat box.

We got a freesat one on the scheme and were very pleased with it, and with the engineers who fitted the disc, wiring and the drilling of holes, kept everything tidy and explained everything.
No problems and very satisfied

.....Unlikely - I've got 2 working set top boxes from before I bought new TVs ...and I can't even give them away!!!!:)
