As far as im aware yes you do have to use the samsung one.

However the Vonet Wifi Bridge works with lots of other devices such as satellite boxes etc so it may work?
  • Since I cannot post a link, as I am a new user, here is some useful info. that might answer your question

"It may be possible to use other manufacturer's wireless dongle with your Samsung Home Cinema system. However, Samsung cannot guarantee working or full compatibility. Samsung may not be able to assist you in any troubleshooting for problems associated with the use of a 3rd party manufacturer.

NOTE: We recommend using only Samsung approved accessories and equipment. Any equipment that is not recommended by Samsung may cause problems or damage and may invalidate your warranty."

Hi OP is Ethernet out of the question, maybe with a couple of homeplugs?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

The item listed below appears to work on most Samsung items. I believe it has the same chipset as the Samsung device and thus works with their drivers

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Wireless-300Mbps-suitable-Samsung/dp/B0013DUOO0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332333039&sr=8-2
  • Thanks TD. I tried a wireless adapter that I already had from 7dayshop, but it didn't work. So the Hama looks like the answer.

I've got a Samsung smart TV - What does the dongle actually enable you to watch /do? and is it worth it?

    Thanks :o
  • Well to be honest ... not much ! I only plugged it in last night and had a quick play (as the actress said to the vicar) BBC iplayer better than watching on the laptop. You also have a version of youtube, twitter, facebook etc, but I have not explored them yet. The Hama dongle I got was £6.90 inc P&P ............... I am glad I didn't pay for the samsung one £40 ish !!!!!

Maybe someone who has had it longer will explain things a bit better. I think you can access other devices via the wifi to play music show pictures etc. Haven't told the wife yet , but I saw M&S channel ...... Must delete that one !

The dongle is just a USB wireless adaptor. You use it if you can't run a LAN cable to the TV to access whatever online stuff this particular manufacturer provides. If you want to find out what you're missing out on, connect the TV to your router with a network cable.
