I think all co's are pretty much the same when getting quotes with points on your licence. I suppose it just depends how many he has. If he's close to 12 then he *might* need a co that's more specialised.

There are so many people with points on their licences' that all insurance companies will quote. They will just use it as an excuse to increase the premium.

It depends what the points are for. Two sp30 speeding fines, for instance, are going to give you a lot less trouble than an IN10, or a TS10, or any driving without due care, in which case you may not be able to get insurance with certain companies.

Depends what the points are for. Speeding points are not looked on as harshly as say drink driving points

  • Hi - I also think I got flashed by a speed camera on Friday night - I've had my licence for 15 years and have never been in any sort of trouble before. However was a bit worried about my insurance and so had a look as a few insurance companies to check their policies and, when you fill in the quote forms and it asks about convictions - it usually gives a little 'info' link to check waht they class as a conviction and when you need to contact them by phone. For speeding, on 2 of the insurance companies I checked the info says 'if you have more than 1 of the following convictions...' or 'if you have more than 2 of the following convictions...' , so if you have only 1 or 2 speeding tickets it seems you don't evean have to mention it.

You do have to tell your insurance company about any speeding convictions you get. If you dont, and they find out (ie when u make a claim) they can void your insurance and can decline your claim.

Well why does it say 'if you have more than 1 of the following...' (speeding included in the list). If I only have 1 speeding ticket, then surely that isn't 'more than 1'. I'm actually genuinely confused.

I have no idea why that particular website says that. Which one was it and ill have a look.

I work in the insurance industry, and I deal with Voided insurances all the time where people have failed to mention something to their insurance co, points being 1 of them. Different underwrites do look at it in different ways tho and place different loading on. But you must advise them of any points they will then decide whether to load your premium or not.

Its called voidence for not declaring a material fact.

  • It's when you look for an instant online quote - the RAC and Norwich Union were the 2 I looked at simply because they're the first 2 that popped into my head! I have looked at my own insurance policy and it says to inform them if anything changes. I will tell my insurers - it's not the cost to me that's a hassle - it's the frustration with having points on an otherwise unblemished licence. And it was some idiots fault who was tailgating me (about 3 metres behind me) in the pouring rain - was terrified about putting the brakes on in case he slammed into the back of me - i'm furious to be honest.
