Connect wii to my wireless network. HELP!!

Well i've been searching for hours now and can't seem to find the answer. I have a linksys wag354g router and have had no trouble running my wireless laptop for over 12 months.

I want to connect my nintendo wii up to this router but need my wep key? I have looked at the wireless network properties and i have found the key but it is encrypted and i cannot seem to find it.

Please help

Just get yourself a new long random key from here and copy and paste it into your router and then into your devices.

You need to enter the router setup ,open your browser and type 192.168.0.1(I think) in the browser bar,you should be able to see your wep settings in there somewhere.
I would love some decent telly on a Saturday night
  • So just going to that website, and copying and paste in to the place where it is encrypted and then typing it into the wii will do it?

  • I tried to copy and paste it and it says that it needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 14 asici or 10 or 25 hexadecimal charecters.

    Help please

Just copy say 25 hex characters from that site and save it to a notepad file. Enter this string into your router and then into any other devices that you want to connect. You should use the longest random length string that your equipment will allow for maximum security, preferably using WPA-PSK.

  • Ok i have done that and it initiated a connection test and that failed? I have had an error code 52030, unable to connect to the internet.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

So does it work OK with your laptop? See this page for more Wii error info.

Make sure that your network name is visible.

When I connected my Wii I had to slightly reduce my network security and broadcast my network name.

Once that was done the Wii connected and all was well.

I strongly suggest you use http://www.networkmagic.com to assist, it is a superb bit of software which simplifies networking problems and free for the first month (free after that with reduced features).

You may also wish to upgrade to WPA 2 and mac filtering to increase your security, but NetworkMagic will help you with that.

By the way, once the Wii is connected you'll be surprised how often it connects to the net, even when switched off, don't know what its doing, you can disable this in the settings.
  • I have phoned linksys and got it all sorted. Fair play they are really helpful as were my isp (namesco). Thanks to all.
