Free iPhone handset T Mobile FAIL

It is interesting that the T Mobile credit refereral department are so remove fro T Mobile customers that they are not contactable any other way then by post. For what paports to be a communication company T Mobile are very bad at communication.
I have just been refused a £41/month iPhone contract even though I have an Equifax 487 'EXCELLENT' score .
Equifax say 'You have a score of 487. Your score is highly predictive that you would be a strong candidate for credit. You are well above the average for UK borrowers. Most credit grantors would consider this score excellent.' and 'Many credit grantors may also offer you preferential terms such as higher credit limits or lower rates.'
It is interesting that they have refused my for a 'free handset' where as that are more than happy to set up a contract for a paid handset. I believe that they do not actually offer the handset I want free to new customers and this is the real reason not because of my credit score.

so you're saying you have passed the credit check if you have to pay for the handset, but not passed the credit check when the handset is free?

Equifax is all well and good, but there are many different individual rules on credit approval with the mobile networks, rules you cannot and will not find out...

p.s. your thread is a rant, would be better placed on the rants, priase board....

Reportedly T-mobile use Equifax, not Experian and, as all lenders, use just information from the CRA for their own scoring system. And very small errors and discrepancies can make a big difference.

Why would you want the £46 a month tariff when it is the exact same deal as the £36 tariff if you pay £99 upfront for the phone? The extra £10 a month works out at £240 over the two years minus the cost of the phone and you're actually wasting £140 of your money.

Why not pay full £500 price of the iPhone from Apple and then get a very cheap SIM-only tariff? This usually works out cheaper than a package of handset and service over 18 months or two years. Your iPhone will then not be SIM-locked so you can later switch networks at will or use local SIMs when abroad to avoid hefty roaming charges.
