Swapping nappies for bigger sizes??

I totally overbought on my size 3 nappies (little one is 17lb at 11 weeks!). I've got two economy packs of huggies newborn size 3 and pampers superdry size 3 (still have more but theyve been taken out their boxes), I went to asda where I bought three of them today who refused to exchange them, and also refused to exchange brand new tagged 3-6month clothes because I didn't have the receipt.

Is there anywhere that will allow me to exchange them? I can get to any of the big supermarkets!

Also, does anyone know if there's a way I can exchange the George clothes? I've never heard of anywhere refuse a clothes size exchange without a receipt.

  • Clothes they should allow you to exchange but not get cash back and recently did for me. I would go back and speak to a manger.

I suspect that because you were trying to exchange a lot of stuff, they might have been suspicious that it was stolen hence why they were being a bit difficult. Do you have any other proof that you bought it, eg a bank statement showing a debit card payment to Asda recently (even if it wasn't actually for those items ;) ). I might be inclined to try again a different day, perhaps just with the clothes and if they let you change those mention about the nappies and see what they say. If you drive, you could leave them in the car, and go and get them if you get someone more accommodating next time.

If they won't change the nappies though, you could always sell them and use the money to buy the next size up. We have a local mums yahoo group where I live where mums often advertise things like this for sale, but places like mums net might also be a good place to post.

Yep asda refused to exchange nappies for me also! I'd got them in the baby event & stocked up so no longer had the receipt.

I've still got the box at home not sure wot to do with it!

They should change the clothes if tagged. I'd try again another day sounds like they were being difficult....or poss a new member of staff?

Tesco wouldnt allow me to swap nappies my Dad had bought me either. He'd bought baby dry and I wanted new baby. After a bit of pleading on my part (im pn holiday atm and my dad had made a mistake) the guy let me. He was young though and dont think he could be bothered wih the hassell.

Ive exchanged nappies with and without receipt at Boots with no difficulties.

If you bought the items on card, sometimes they'll accept a bank statement of proof of purchase.

Shops are usually quite good at exchanges without receipts, but I don' think they're obliged to, perhaps you could appeal to a manager.

the nappies, I can understand, if you think they could have been in an area where you are changing a baby, then for hygiene reasons, they might not accept them. That's not to say they were, but maybe the supermarkets don't want to take the risk, perhaps they've had cases of customers buying returned nappies with something on them, it's possible. Again, you could explain this isn't the case, although they could have been bought anywhere or stolen, so proof with a statement might help.

I've not tried to change nappies but when my little girl was born I exchanged a few outfits in Asda no problem. The SA did say they were only allowed to do up to £20 onto a gift card without a receipt so I did some and my friend did some as well to save me going back another day - I recommend you go straight to the George counter and try again.

  • My Asda has a sign up saying they wont exchange any baby items unless faulty. OP I bet youll be able to sell them on easily either to another Mum at school or a mums and tots group.

Having totally overbought on size 2s as well as 1s, had a baby who grows out well before the weight band is up, and who has decided to be allergic to every baby wipe except huggies, i've done a lot of swapping! I've changed things in morrisons, tesco, sainsburys and boots no problem. I just explain that I stocked up before he arrived and didn't think to keep the receipt. Don't try to do too many in one shop, and it helps to take the huge baby along as a visual aid. :D I even had to do a swap in Debenhams yesterday as someone bought him some jeans in the next size up, and I couldn't get them over his legs!

My other half has been refused by Asda though, and they were the store that told him just to bring them back if he'd got the wrong ones! And Mothercare won't swap without a receipt.
