  • I spent £14 out of £20 budget - £10 on presents and £4 on work lottery syndicate. Both are budgeted items so feeling rather pleased after a disastrous week previously.
Am joining CAFGirl's "giving up spending for Lent" challenge so will set a budget of £5 to be spent only on essentials such as bread and fruit which will need topping up during the week. No toiletries or chocolate allowed!
I know some of you will frown at the lottery but I decided that £52 was worth it just in case our syndicate does have a big win - actually it is always less than £52 as we always have some small wins and get about £10 back at the end of the year.
Though I feel like I have used up all my luck this week. I was booked onto the 17.15 train from Euston which crashed on Friday evening. It's a train I frequently use and it is always packed although it does empty out quite a bit at Preston. The person I was meeting had flu so the meeting was cancelled on Thursday - we only returned the tickets for a refund on Friday morning. I couldn't believe it when I picked up the paper - the pictures we awful and I went really sick when I read which train it was.
Sorry for rambling on but DH doesn't like me to mention it as he doesn't like all the travelling I do in my job anyway.
Today will be a NSD and I have just taken some more photos for another eBay listing session so should ultimately be profitable.
    Have a great Sunday everyone

    Hello everyone!

It is my first day off in 10 days.......... so I'm having a much needed lazy day. I've been earning more, but spending more, so I've not done very well recently. I spent almost £60 last week. Starting from today my budget is £40 as usual, but as I've only managed to stick to it once I wonder if I should have to review what it includes....? or, perhaps I should continue to aim high?

Not planning to spend anything today though.

Ok found it. My budget for last week was :

    Transport : £25 - actual spend £23.5
    Lunch : £16 - actual spend £18.50
    Misc : £40 - actual spend £39
    Social : £50 - actual spend £46.83
    Total : £131 - actual total = £127.83

So thats me ok then. The social side was helped by free drinks after work on Friday and just going round to a friend to watch the rugby, have pizza and then a round at the pub. Otherwise I may have gone over a bit.

I only carried out one spotcheck though, due to the fact that due to an upcoming promotion I have been asked to delegate more rather than do them myself. However, I am free to carry on with them for the next month or two.

Also spent £30 at Boots, but this is unbudgeted as it was using my love2shop vouchers, of which I have another £124 and some of which will be spent today on some t-shirts for the gym.

    Next weeks total :

    Transport to work : £24
    Lunch : £17
    Social : £50
    Total : £91

This week it looks the the 'social' budget will be spent next saturday (yes, I like to include that in my planner even though its not part of the challenge). We will be getting the last train home, so that means no expensive cabs home from Central London.

oh pants! I'm down to £14 left for the month now :)

I just got Marie Claire subscription for £6 for 6 months - got it because I wanted the £42 worth of body shop stuff as a present for someone, so I guess I could always take it out of my bday budget for this month as it's only at £10 out of £20....

    hmm...I'll stop muttering on now!!

Edit: ignore this - I've taken it fro the bday budget but will count it for this challenge as it was not a planned purchase - ho hum, £14 left for the week...

Do you have the link for this anywhere, I've been looking for a cheap (but still nice) present to get my Mum for her birthday and this could be perfect :)

You know what? This has got me thinking about setting myself a monthly budget and sticking to it, rather than basing each week on what I want to spend.

My target was £40 and I spent, about £15 plus £7 on a mystery shop but that'll be refunded

This week, back to my normal crazy routine so £10 should do it

  • oooooooooooohhhh dear.........I stuck to this religiously until Friday. I was still clinging onto £1.67 of my £10 until I went into town to buy holiday clothes and spent £113.......if only I'd waited until Saturday I could have got away with it!!!!

ok, this week......I do need to go shopping, but for incidental spending, I will say (having a long think now) £10 again as I would have done that last week if I hadn't have bought the clothes!
