First time renter looking for the best internet supplier

Hello all.
I am moving into an area where Virgin is available, are they worth a look?
I'm after (as we all are) fast, cheap and reliable internet.
Had issues with all the big guns in the past (Orange, BT etc.) but looking for advice on who's worth a look.
Also could be swayed with the deals they do regarding television.
Thanks in advance.

VM cable is (sometimes) fast but certainly not cheap-the most expensive telephony in the UK.
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com and look for your available LLU options, these will be the cheapest deals. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
What is your usage?
If you live in a large student area, VM will likely not be very good for you if you watch a lot of video online, play games or use the net to make VOIP calls.
If you're just using Facebook and checking email, then VM will be fine.0 -

Not true. I don't know where you get this info from or what you suggest would be a better alternative?
I live in an area where there are a lot of students and I use VM for watching videos online and downloading and I think it's great.0 -
I get this info from the Virgin Media forums and looking at people's complaints about poor speeds. Nearly all of them are due to high utlisation, which often ocurrs in large student areas.
Test your line at pingtest.net - then setup a think broadband ping monitor. You'll soon see the quality of your line.
You might be lucky and live in an area without high utilisation.
To the op, like i said it all depends on your usage. If you want VM I would visit their forums and do a search for your town/city, you'll soon find out what the connection it like. If there aren't many posts/complaints then it will no doubt be fine.
If you're a heavy user, i'd suggest the under utilised C&W network (if avilable in your area), through a reseller such as Vivaciti or Xilo.
If you just want the cheapest BB and don;t care much about performance, because you only web browse, then try the likes of Talktalk, Tiscali, Plusnet etc..0 -
I was with Virgin for TV, Phone and Broadband for 12 months and couldn't wait to get rid.
Broadband was fine with fast speeds, but the TV Package was crap and phone calls expensive.
The package was about £60 a month, but the monthly bill was about £80 or £90 with the phone calls on.
I also had to pay £100 deposit upfront to take out the package, it took me about a month and a half after leaving to get my deposit back.
I'm with Sky now but the TV Package is crap it's the Entertainment plus.0 -
Here is what my VM connection looks like:
Now compare that with my ADSL connection the C&W network:0
