Am thinking of experimenting with things like sweet peas and runner beans. Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has tried doing this as to success or otherwise... or any other 'one-off' type suggestions.

I have only grown tomatoes and cucumber in a growbag did try French beans but the got too wet.
Also seen Jamie Oliver use grow bags for potatoes he opened one end took some soil out and then put it back in as the potatoes grew.
Saw this at the Edible Garden Show at the weekend thought that was a good idea gives the roots more space. Expencive but maybe if you are handy you can make something similar. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/51574/The-Grow-Bag-FrameSave £12k in 25 No 49

Hi
I might be the only one... but I don't like grow bags.. I prefer to use pots. I usually get the pots 10 for around £1 from Morrisons and fill them up with the stuff out of the growbags or compost and grow the tomatoes and cucumbers in that.. I find it easier to water the pots and look after the tomatoes etc and also allow more space between the plants once they grow up ..
Just a thought...0 -
Courgettes and patty pan do okay. Like officeguru I prefer pots. Chillis do better in pots too. And they take less floor space.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

we successfully grow - peas / mangetout
sweetpeas climb up my runnerbeans, with a courgette plant in the space underneath
chillies, tomatoes, cucumbers, with herbs & lettuce in between.
onions one year !
beetroot and strawberries

What a brilliant idea! Aldi's bags were 50p cheaper than most places if I remember rightly - is it any good? Is there really any difference between brands??

I'm a pot or planter kinda gal too but if I do ever use growbags I put them on their sides so the available planting depth is deeper.Herman - MP for all!0

My courgettes thrived in grow bags last year, so am planting some more in them this year (new grow bags though). Have also planted some spinach and rocket in them. Bought my grow bags in Aldi for £1.29/each. Bargain!0
