Fruit Salad Help

I never make any kind of syrup ('cos my mum never did). I start with a big tin of peaches in juice. Then I add a fresh pineapple, mango and melon. Grapes too if I've got them. That's the basic fruit salad and serves 5 of us 2-3 meals.
I don't put in apples, pears or oranges or soft fruit. I think that strawberries and raspberries get bashed about in a fruit salad. I like to serve them on their own with cream.0 -
We just use whatever we have in. I will always add something acidic like pineapple or orange if I use apple or pear though to stop it browning. (I either rub each cut side of the apple/pear with a slice of pineapple or orange or pour in some juice.)
I read the other day that some runny honey in warm water poured over a fruit salad then put in the fridge to firm up is nice.
But my favourite fruit salad advice came from my friend's son. Knowledge is knowing tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not using it in a fruit salad. LOLMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Everyone has some really good ideas!Mrs_Flittersnoop wrote: »I add either lemonade or ginger ale (especially nice if you've got melon in the mix).Gingham_Ribbon wrote: »But my favourite fruit salad advice came from my friend's son. We used to fight over the cherries from fruit cocktail, and tinned strawberries - my poor Mum had to count exactly to be fair. But she gave up when it came to the skin on homemade rice pudding and macaroni pudding - it was a free-for-all.Nelly's other Mr. Hyde0

My MIL makes the liquid part with some sugar dissolved in hot water and the juice of a lemon. Makes it really yummy. My own personal faves are pears and bananas. Don't like orange in it at all unless very sweet. Agree with Jayar that I usually go for whatever's in season and looks nice0

I prefer red fruit salad. Strawberry raspberry red grape blueberry think you get the general theme now. For juice I use red grape.
I have made this many times at home for parties and it has been requseted to take to other peoples.
Always goes down well with all ages.

That's a nice idea - colour co-ordinated fruit salad- would probabley go down well at a posh party

I just throw in whatever fruit I have. I don't usually add any liquid. Sometimes I will put a yogurt on top.0

I should have added the lemon juice dressing I suggested means the fruit salad is even nicer left over the next day - the flavours all blend and make it really yum. Although DH claims that you can't use bananas in it if it's going to sit overnight - tho I like the way they start to dissolve personally0
