Thank you Suki, you've done the right thing in starting this thread. Amazed that you have to justify your actions...! Thanks again.

I think it's something to do with the law on physics. I'm not really amazed, there's always one or two who'll disagree, you'll get the hardcore one, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'd rather remind people or let them know if they weren't aware and get flack for it, than not say anything if it might help a child from potentially being harmed. They can slate me all they like, they can try and prove a point till they're blue in the face, if they so wish.

So thanks for letting me know. It does help.:)

I'm warning it's not safe. I think children are aware personal information shouldn't be given out, but as far as I can see tiny snipets of information have been pieced together by finding information out from several people, cleverly done, cleverly obtained. I'll let you imagine the rest. Yes, it is every parents worst case scenario. I'll just add nobody went to meet anyone. It was an extension of stranger danger. I hope that is enough information for you.

You're absolutely correct to remind people of the dangers of giving out a snippet of personal information here, and another snippet there, on the internet.

The same warning holds true for adult posters on sites like MSE.

In context however, the poster was clearly referring to grooming and preventing it. Child cannot be groomed on that system even though it could be anyone.

Can't they? So little Alice who has posted safe messages for years won't be contacted once off 'safe' mode by little Alice who of course, someone's little girl has known for years as Alice when really - it's not Alice at all. Ok then. If you say so.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

If questioning your reasoning about why it is 'safe' online saves just one child - then it will be well worth it. :A

But warning people it isn't safe online will do that, that's enough for parents. I think people got the gist of the message.

You didn't just question my reasoning anyway though did you? You could have been a bit more civil.

Don't mislead everyone into thinking you are doing them service, when in fact what you are actually doing is just being hellbent on being right. Nothing more nothing less. You might think what you are doing is clever, but people like you will go to the far end of a fart to prove they are right, just to feed their egos. Don't try and make out it was anything otherwise

Sambucus Nigra - if we'd all been sitting having a coffee, I would've walked out of the room by now, what you're saying is repetitive and boring.

We get what you're saying...now give it a rest.
It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?

You couldn't be more wrong. But don't let that get in the way of your reasoning, which as we have seen - can be flawed.

Evidently warning people that the internet isn't safe isn't enough for parents - as we have seen on this thread.

Right ok, the only person I am having to explain myself to is you. As you are the world's greatest internet security expert and you already know it all, I'm not sure why I have to explain anything to you. It apparently serves some purpose, which is beyond myself and several other posters.

Those who do know why you're doing it are finding it repetative and boring - so you're losing on both counts.

Don't make out you are doing everyone else a favour - I suggest you go and feed your ego elsewhere, like I said you're not Jeremy Paxman, so stop acting like him.

I suspect you're getting a big kick out of this, are you waiting for me to keal over, beg for forgiveness and bow down to your superior knowledge, because that's how you're coming across.

Thanks again for the warning Suki. I've been thinking about it, and will not be renewing my daughters subscription until I've heard the details about this, and see whats being done about it.

Unfortunately there is no way of proving whose who online on a site. Think Moshi should get rid of free chat, for safety reasons. I've always told my daughter not to chat to anyone, so she doesn't, and I supervise her online activities, and we decide what she will do beforehand. I'm concerned enough to follow this closely.

It might be a while before I can reveal them, but I'll let you know.
