Warning to Parents Who Use Moshi Monsters

Why do you need to know? It's not me who had the problem. I am just warning others.
You said 'Before I get comments of "You thought it was safe". I have to admit I did, because it is a children's site' - so what checks did you think any child's site would make in order to verify that it is just children using it?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Seriously what is the point in grilling the OP over this? She was trying to do a good thing by warning people who may not be aware, just because you know the basics that appear obvious to you doesnt mean everyone will see it as obvious.
My mum wouldnt understand chat rooms etc and I had to sort out her privacy settings on facebook for her because she had no idea everything was on the public setting, some people just arent canny with the internet, not even with the most obvious things.
There is really no need for this kinda reaction on this thread!0 -

Whether I thought the site was safer or not, does not mean I didn't warn my children of the dangers of using the internet. My opinions of the content of the site, does not mean my children aren't internet savvy.
This thread was not intended to be used as a soap box for those to comments on what I do or don't do for my children's welfare. I am their parent and that is up to me. I do not have to explain anything to you.
I am highlighting the dangers of this site, because I believe a lot of parents think it is safer than it actually is. You might not and good for you, but not everyone might and they might be thankfull I have warned them, or at least reminded them. And your problem is?MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

What reaction? Complete astonishment that people think the internet is safe? So she can be astonished that it isn't safe, but we're not allowed to be astonished that she was astonished? Fascinating. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
And, I need to justify what measures I took because?

Aw well I guess you're not going to find that out. I hope you can cope.
It really is irrelevant. I'm warning people. I think as others have said, that's good enough really. And hopefully it will help someone.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
Thanks for posting this. My DD has been asking to use the site so her monster can 'meet' her friend's. I registered too so we could play together but got really annoyed when you had to pay to go into so many of the different areas. I've forwarded this link to a friend who's DD also uses it in case she doesn't know about the dangers.
I thought I was pretty internet savvy and I didn't really think about the risks so will explain to DD not to play on it anymore. There are loads more safe sites that she uses, so she shouldn't miss this one.
DH is now blocking it from the laptop so she can't try and go on it without our knowledge."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
