not really a bargain, but it was 50p for a beautiful small 2012 calendar with lovely illustrations of hummingbirds and flowers in different languages. i never buy full-priced calendars, and this year purposefully didn't look for any reduced ones in the sale as they're usually don't get used (as in filled-in!)

but am pleased with this one tho'...

I brought my first items other than books from a harity shop the other day for my baby. I got 2 sleepsuits, 1 romper suit (all George) and a pair of matalan shorts for holidays all for only £4.25 which I think is fab! They are in amazing condition and I am impressed. :) Ijust wish I lived closer so I could pay more regular visits!

It's good to know that manky shoes can be sold to specialist companies, as I've sometimes binned them rather than giving them away as I thought nobody would want them - I assume they cut up the leather for grinding down and recycling?

I'm an expatriate living in Budapest and I'm pleased to announce I've just found the city's first charity shop! They have lots of privately run second hand clothes shops but until now haven't had a charity shop as the Hungarians are very thrifty and don't give away good clothes, nor do they have much tradition of organised charitable work.

I gave them a bagful of stuff and had a look round - it was nice to see an old fashioned charity shop that sold everything and anything instead of a gift shop posing as a charity shop, like some UK ones I could mention!

An XL 4 seasons sleeping bag - for OH to keep in the car in the winter. It needed a damn good wash (smelt of 'Scout camp' IFYKWIM) but has come up perfect! £5!!! A good one can cost £50 and upwards.....

    Ah, therein lies a tale...

Our son married in February in a very hot, humid country. In the "run up" to the wedding I thought "how on earth am I going to find summer clothing in rainy old Britain in January without it costing me the earth?" I trawled TK Maxx and the Sales and found a few suitable items and had to be content.

The day before flying off, I went to the local charity shop to pick up one or two books for the two weeks away. I noticed a lovely crushed raspberry strappy top with teal and raspberry over-smock (unworn M&S still sporting original tags) for £3, a lovely black silk top as fine as gossamer for £2 (IIRC) and a Berkertex suede leather jacket (£8). As I write, I'm wearing the raspberry set with the jacket beside me ready for action. (It was also worn to leave the UK and return to it as it is quite warm.)

And I got my books (which I left in the hotel room's recycling bin - hoping someone else will benefit from them) and the wedding was truly marvelous...

mine is a little mirror in a leather pocket for 50p - especially so as it matches a purse that my husband bought for me about 3 years ago. :)

**just remembered that today (can you believe, I'd already forgotten!) I got a BBC 8xCD boxed-set of Michael Wood's The Story of India - approx 10 hours of listening time. Cost was £1.50 & I'm really looking forward to hearing about the history of the country**
