How do I add a Google icon to the top bar, so I don't have to type https://www.google. Every time I want to use it?0

I'm not sure it is a problem - I've noticed something similar recently and it looks to me as if that's the way it is meant to work. If I've done a search and got the results, if I then add more words to the search to refine it, the screen fades slightly while it carries out the search and then comes back sharp with the results.
But I cant add or change words to the results because the search box isn't there:( I've done a screen print but can't work out how to save it as a jpeg.
above the results on a light gray bar area I have the word google on the left and my gmail.com address on the right and a big empty space in between where the search box should be.0 -
