Sue, all three that you have recommended are fantastic, thank you so so much, Horton Grange looks wonderful, just the type of place we were looking for, so I've emailed them about the booking! Can't thank you enough, thanks for taking the time to post the links for me, I really appreciate it.

I have stayed at Matfen. Nice enough hotel, and great if you like golf. They do quite a lot of weddings, I think, so if that's something that would put you off, then you might want to investigate further...

Glad to help. I hope all goes well.
  • I went to Tynemouth at the beginning of the year and although the Grand hotel is indeed the place to stay, I didn't have a budget to spend the night there. However Whitley Bay is just a few minutes away and there is an abundance of cheaper bed and breakfasts there. I stayed at a great little B&B called The Chedburgh, just a few hundread metres up from the sea front. I had a great en-suite room with flat screen telly & sky with a fresh full english breakfast for only £35.00! Now thats a bargin. I think their website is http://www.chedburgh-hotel.co.uk. I had already checked it out on tripadvisor and it got great reviews which I agree with

The Grand Hotel is fab! We got married there and staff are brilliant, aswell as hotel being lovely( wouldnt worry too much about a function going on, there shouldn't be too much noise) I would also recomend the B&B 61 Front st. Again, lovely.

Would steer you away from The Park Hotel unless you like sharing your room with unwanted visitors (allegedly!).

Be warned tho - Whitley bay is stag and hen nite-tastic! Phone ahead and try and make sure they are a small family run establishment!

Hope that helps, and enjoy your trip oop north! :D

Agreed. DONT stay at the Park Hotel. I will go as far as saying that its the worst hotel I have stayed in ever - anywhere! Teh average Travelodge is light years ahead of this place.
