A while ago i purchased a round bath mat from ikea i took it up for a while for a change and i put it back down about a week ago. I went to ikea today and i bought a new one as it was only 90 odd pence, i got home and picked up the old one to find as i picked it up i was pulling my lino up, it had stuck to the lino. I separated it but the none slip backing has stuck to the flooring, where it hasn't stuck and left it all sticky it has discoloured the black marble effect lino. what should i do, it has ruined my lino??

Sorry, but I think it's a case of expecting too much for your money (99p?). Lino is pretty hard-wearing stuff & it takes a lot to damage it - having said that, some of the modern cheap vinyl flooring can be scrapped by just looking at it, but that's a different scenario. It may be that something spilt on the mat which caused the backing to separate & stick to the lino - a good proprietary cleaner should be able to shift the residue. I don't think you'll get much joy from Ikea - they don't advertise as being perfect, just cheap - 'you pay your money, you take your choice'0

You could try a little bit of WD40 to see if it would remove the glue off the lino. I used it on my vinyl, it doesn't have a shiny surface though, more a matt sort of granolithic look to remove the glue that was used to adhere it to the floor when it was laid by the fitter. It came off fine and didn't affect the vinyl. Good Luck, I hope you get it fixed.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. Try something like sticky stuff remover, great for things like that. I always buy Ikea bath mats but use them almost as disposables, not very OS you may say but unfortunately I have a cat who like surfing on bath mats and rips s*#t out of them (as I found out when my £12 John Lewis ones looked like they had been through a shredder!)
I have noticed that they do tend to get tacky after a few weeks so thats when they go in the bin0 -
we use the pound shop ones. as you say, disposable at them prices.
but we have ceramic tiles on the floor so no problems there either.Get some gorm.0 -
Those Ikea bath mats are sh*te.
They've ruined our bathroom carpet.
They get even worse when you wash them.
I'm tempted to take them back next time I trek across to Gateshead, as they're not fit for purpose.
I don't think they used to be as low as 90 odd pence either - looks like they're trying to get rid.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

I had a bath mat that did the same thing. What a pain, I won't bother with a mat like that again! It left a kind of grid pattern of rubber welded to my floor. As girlsmum says, it can be sorted with elbow grease. I think I had most success using v hot soapy water, and some hard scrubbing.0
