Lease = the car doesnt belong to you it belongs to the lease company. Leasing is probably a good thing to do if you are self employed.
PCP= Personal Contract Purchase the car is yours but the loan is still secured on it. All yu are doing here is defering the payment of a portion of the loan (which becomes the Guaranteed Future value). By doing this the monthly payment are less than a traditional loan/HP. It is OK is you are happy with changing cars every 2/3/4 years and dont mind paying for the privelege. There are plenty of websites that have online calculators. Some like LEX dont necessarily need a big deposit, it vould be zero but others will want at least a 10% deposit. try https://www.drivethedeal.com https://www.uknewcars.com

What is your montly budget and do you have a deposit?
  • I can easily put £5k down as a deposit, then would look for around £250 - £300 per mth

    Cheers

The problem is that if you put down £5k as a deposit and then want to replace the car, where does the next £5k deposit come from?

Buying a car over three years would get you a budget of £13k - £15k in cash with your deposit.

  • Have decided that am not going to buy new again, but would happily take a demo on either a lease or pcp....

    is this possible?

    Regards

It's possible but it narrows your options... not all dealers and especially indpendent lease comapnies will do "used" cars on PCPs or leases; manufacturer schemes with "low" (8% APR) rates as opposed to 15% APR| may only be available on new cars.

I don't think you can rule out new and then say you want to get a lease or a PCP because you could end up paying more for the privilege of driving an older car of the same model.

Actually you can get a PCP on a used car from most dealers. I personally have had two PCP in the past on used cars (up to a year old). On your budget MercMan you will probably not get a new (or nearly new) ML or A6 Quattro. You might get an old shape CRV which would be quite good value or even a new CRV. Look at https://www.broker4cars.co.uk New CRV 2.0i VTEC ES £5K deposit 10,000 miles per year over 3 years = £233 per month @ 8.5% APR.

Not sure if this is the right forum, but if not would the mods please move it across

Anyway. We have just sold our Mercedes B Class and have a wedge of cash to look for another car

We are unsure as to if to purchase something like a year old freelander or if not to go and lease a new freelander and drip the cash we have in our bank to pay the monthly installments?

Where is the cheapest, most reliable place to lease such a vehicle?

    Regards

    Pete

Cant comment on the leasing but wanted to say that we have the Freelander 2 and it's beautiful so you wont go wrong if you get one. I've had 3 of the old style freelanders in the past (and never had a problem) but the new one is such an improvement. As Pianeet said, it's a baby Range Rover :D

Can't say I'm a fan of leasing but having watched Dragons Den a couple of weeks ago I ended up at the below website.

It is a rather slapdash affair but there has been substantial positive feedback and there are one or two cheap deals.

    www.lingscars.com

    Slapdash????????????

    Aaaaagh.

Years of hand-crafted love have gone into my website!!! But I forgive you MJR600 as you gave me a link, thanks :)
