Lease a Freelander 2
Not sure if this is the right forum, but if not would the mods please move it across
Anyway. We have just sold our Mercedes B Class and have a wedge of cash to look for another car
We are unsure as to if to purchase something like a year old freelander or if not to go and lease a new freelander and drip the cash we have in our bank to pay the monthly installments?
Where is the cheapest, most reliable place to lease such a vehicle?
Regards
Pete

Hello mercman
I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, where it should get more responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. For leasing, have a word with Ian Driscoll at IBS Vehicle Leasing - http://ibsleasing.co.uk/ . You can catch him via e-mail on ianibsleasing.co.uk .0

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Freelander, but if you are then great; as long as it's more reliable than the old one anyway, which was dire. (I actually saw one on fire today, driving down the motorway).
As to whether it's a good idea to lease - it depends on your personal preferences and above all what the actual cost is. I have seen manufacturers subsidise lease deals when there are no discounts available for purchasers, which means that leases are actually cheaper. That's rare though and as there is a captial cost for the asset, you are effectively paying interest in most cases.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350
Debt now: £14,100
Debt free day: October 2008 :beer:0 -
Can't say I'm a fan of leasing but having watched Dragons Den a couple of weeks ago I ended up at the below website.
It is a rather slapdash affair but there has been substantial positive feedback and there are one or two cheap deals.

dont be put off by the old freelandersHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
so would anyone recommend a leasing rather than getting an your own car?0

Try https://www.lexfreechoice.com they seem to offer a good variety of option, including maintenance and road tax inclusive options. Why lease and not a PCP?0

Mrsbudget - generally, leasing is going to be more expensive because you have to fund the lease company's own finance on your car, plus their profit margin.
However there are exceptions, such as when a manufacturer will offer discounts through lease companies but not through dealers, because they don't want to be seen to offer huge cash discounts (and thus weaken resale values and put off buyers) but still need to increase their volume of sales.
So the question is really not whether it's a good idea to lease or not, but whether a particular deal is the best for you (unless you're self employed and using the car wholly for business, in which case there are different rules about deducting lease payments, instead of purchases, from tax, which can have a major impact).Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350

Dont buy a freelander unless you have got in and out of one.
Why I hear you all ask.......
Cos you cant get out of it without getting the backs of your trouser legs ( or stockings he he he !!!) ABSOLUTELY FILTHY.......
The person that designed the freelander should be made to pay my dry cleaning bill0 -
The gearbox on my dads 4 yr old freelander has just packed up after only 17000 miles. It will cost over £2000 to replace. I understand that the fault has been corrected in the new freelanders though.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0
