Tesco twice in one day will i get a ticket? + anpr camera opt out?

I visited the same tesco twice in one day, each visit was about 7 hours apart will their anpr cameras have logged me in./out correctly?

And on the subject of anpr cameras and data, i aggree and consenet to the fact that companies and government departments need to keep data on me, nd this can be benificial to me ( and to others) such as CCTV footage, photographic evidence, location tracking and recording via my phone and so on.
As i believe that if i have done nothing worng, then ive got nothing to hide.

However what i do object to is the fact that private companies ( such as those working for the supermarkets) routinly record my number plates upon exit/entry of a free car park with what appears to be the sole intention of catching me out and then trygin to charge me a ridiculous fee.

What would the implications be if i was to cover/ obscure my number plate making it unreadable to these camera devices, then removing any cover before i was on the public highway?

The simple solution would be not to shop at these stores, but in todays world we have been left with little choice and i do use local independant retailers when possible - any thoughts?

  • Why would you get a ticket?

I'm guessing they have managed carparks so that people don't park in there and just wonder off into town or where ever

There is no requirement to display a number plate when on private land. So you could cover your front number plate as you went in, and your rear one as you come out, and the snoopy scammers won't even know you were there.

    Or shop somewhere else.

Why worry if they send you a charge? You have no intention of paying it, surely?

I go out and deliberately get charges. It costs the scammers about £5 between the fee to DVLA and postage on the toilet paper. Fun.

In many cases supermarkets have been given planning permission on condition that they make their car park available to all, not just their own customers. Then guess what? They employ a parking parasite to stop people taking advantage of that condition. Relying on the fact that 99% of drivers won't know about it.

And to answer your question, some scammers are notorious for "seeing" you coming in the first time; turning a blind one to you going out the first time and coming in the second time; then "seeing" you going out the second time; and then saying you were in the car park for several hours when actually it was two visits.

Who cares if you get one or not - Its quite meaningless anyway! :)

And I seriously doubt those cameras are really ANPR to begin with. I would guess the only number checking happens when they think they have a victim.

It is quite a well known scam - missing out the first departure and the second arrival to form a ticket based on one lengthy stay, although I haven't heard of it happening at a Tesco's (yet). I've seen quite a few at B&Q though.

I would have thought that a swift complaint somewhere very high up at Tesco's would see the ticket cancelled (the PPC wouldn't want to lose that business, I reckon!), although the over-riding issue here is that the ticket would be unenforceable anyway, on account of it being a contractual penalty.

Please re-read your post and title and ask yourself why on earth would anyone 'worry' about visiting a supermarket twice in one day. It's not a crime!

The simple solution would be to just ignore any fake PCN that Highview or Parking Eye or whoever may send out. Private fake PCNs are just pieces of worthless rubbish. And these are not 'ANPR' cameras; they are just CCTV cameras which zoom in on numberplates - and the company then 'farms' the reg numbers they get to collect data from the DVLA then pocket easy money (allowing Tesco to give 2% or so to a charity so it all looks legit...).

And if you do ever get a fake PCN then wait to collect some of the debt collector scamogram letters (see our top thread) then take copies and complain to the CEO of Tesco at the Head Office address. Not appeal, complain about them using a pathetic protection racket in their car park to scare people into thinking they've got a parking ticket (they have not) and that they have been fined (they have not).

Ask Tesco if they even care about paying customers receiving the enclosed threats from their agent, which seriously tarnishes Tesco's name and in the longterm only drives customers away. Point out that their profits are down - have they even Googled 'Tesco private parking ticket' and even glanced at forum discussions to see the terrible effect these third party parasite 'parking companies' are having on supermarkets' image online? Parking management is NOT the aim of these 'so-called parking companies - clearly if it was and they eradicated any problem then they would make no money at all. Parking mismanagement describes it better and it's the customers who are being bombarded with threats. Say you thought Tesco Head Office should see the rubbish that gets sent out and have a closer look at what is being said about the issue on the internet - it would do their image a world of good if they kicked out the scammers and instead introduced an exit barrier and paid a couple of employees to open it on production of a £10 receipt or some other similar customer-friendly system.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    @ Richard_T_

Being frank, there's a reasonably high risk of your being sent an invoice - based on previous performance. Its the first entrance and last exit that seem to count in many cases with movements in and out in between being ignored.

As and when you receive what will represent a completely unwarranted demand (with its attendant threats of taking you to court etc) I suggest you consider formally serving the PPC concerned with a notice under the terms of s.10 Data Protection Act 1998, directing that they immediately cease processing your data. You can issue such a notice in the belief that their processing of your data is causing you and will cause you in the future to suffer distress as a result of their unwarranted demands and the threats they have attached to them. They have 21 days to comply and demonstrate that your data has been destroyed.

If they fail to comply with their statutory duties in this respect you can obtain an injunction to ensure that they do and pursue them for the costs of the proceedings.

Of course by then any failure on their part to comply with their statutory obligation - especially if you were to receive any further demands from them or an agent of theirs (a DCA for example) - would compound the issue and you could pursue them for additional damages.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

What saddens me about this thread is that the OP hasn't actually received anything yet.

But it does demonstrate the deterrent effect their use of PPCs can have on a retailer's customers and profits.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
