Like any other website or shop I suppose.

I think feedback keeps sellers honest - and it keeps costs e.g. postage down. But it's really not the be-all and end-all of shopping, even online.

I just bought a jam doughnut at Greggs. The shopkeeper did not ask me for a book of references, nor did they ask me to show them what references I left the Polish delicatessen on Thursday just to check it was safe to sell me a cake. Neither does Amazon, or Play, or the printer ink website I bought from on Friday.
    .

Actually Amazon ask me for feedback on their packaging every time I buy from them and I get at least 2 reminders. Every time I shop in Boots I am given a receipt asking me to log in online and leave them feedback.

I ate in two restaurant chains last week and again both asked me to go online and leave feedback.

I think feedback is the latest 'thing', ebay just got there first

I think it's fine for sellers - but then there's a difference between that at the obsession with it on eBay. I don't know many restaurants that would leave feedback even for a disgruntled or disruptive customer, let alone for someone who simply comes in, buys a meal, eats it without complaint, and leaves. I would not like to be asked by Pizza Hut whether I had a good experience with Pizza Express; neither would I expect to have an issue there if I said that I had food poisoning when I ate at Subway (not that I ever have, btw).

Offline, for ordinary items, feedback is superfluous and purely voluntary; it's limited to specific situations (e.g. restaurants). I don't know how many people would bother elsewhere, or how often people do go and leave a review for a restaurant.

I certainly think my point stands about it getting blown out of all proportion when it relates to buyers.

I wonder how many sellers check the BUYERS feedback.

    Obviously it would pay.
What difference would that make? If you start refunding/refusing to send items to a buyer after they have paid because you don't like their feedback, its only going to lead to negative feedback left anyway!

Sorry. I meant Bidders - Not Buyers.

Feedback is only available for 1 month, not enough time to judge an item, ie new stuff should be Gteed for 1 year.. A lot of people post "Positives" then regret it later (I have)

You can leave feedback up to 60 days. I think a year would be completely unreasonable, either leave it or don't.

    Agree with Soolin here.

Even a Rolls Royce can break down after a short time - Would they be due a neg, too?

Feedback is really for the goods and service Etc that you receive from the PERSON, including accurate discription - Not for the quality and longevity of the product (which is often down to usage).
