What tyre size? reg plate or current?

My reg plate on black circles shows my tyre size as

195 65R 15 V 91


Current Kumho tyres i'm using are actually

205 60R 15 92v


Which would be the better size for comfort, control and grip? It seems i'm offered entirely different ranges of tyre using each rating.


Also what is the lowest speed rating I could go to? Had some H rated's on once which would wheel spin if using a bit of torque at lights.

the speed rating refers to just that the speed thgey are rated to i doubt the fact the tyres were an h would of caused any wheel spin, would of been more likely the make and model of tyre. well thats unless you were doing about 150 inmph in your h rated tyres lol

as for sizdes of tyres some peole change sizes due o price difference i know i had a fiat punto wich should of been 185/55/15 but i know lots of people changed to 195/50/15 as the pricer difference was about 15 quid a tyre.

what car do you have ? try finding a tyre site that lets you put in model of car as sometimes they come with diff tyres as standard, personally i would prob keep the size that is on the car unless you having any problems with the slightly wider tyre.

Thanks for the reply, I have a 1.9 TDI mapped to 170 bhp

Its very torquey and I thought I read somewhere the speed rating not only affects top speed, but the forces put upon the tyre when using masses of torque?

i would stick to v rated then in that case wuth your car. looks like the slightly wider ones are cheaper. wich would suggest that maybe thats why they on that car and in theory the slightly wider ones would give better grip also becasue they wider.

I'm simply trying to decide if dropping to 195 width and paying £2 more offers any benefits.

Are you a brand snob? on moneysaving expert? Kumho are anything but a "budget tyre", in fact i've run continental, dunlop & pirelli in the past and paid £25 - £40 more per corner and still prefer the Kumho's grip and wear.

What are the Kumho's then if not budget? "mid range rubber"?
