Thanks for the reply, I have a 1.9 TDI mapped to 170 bhp
Its very torquey and I thought I read somewhere the speed rating not only affects top speed, but the forces put upon the tyre when using masses of torque?
You read correctly. It isn't just the speed but also the potential loads placed on the tyres.0 -
I'll stick with the KH31's v rated then, thanks for those with the useful advice
doesnt appear to be any benefit in going to 195 width

Tyre ratings have absolutely nothing to do with wheelspin, which is caused by too much power applied too quickly/bad road conditions/gradient/load.
As far as 170BHP is concerned, I would stick to V rated tyres, and the 205/60/15 should be a very close ratio to 195/65/15.0 -
im a kumho fan by the way
always fit them on my own steads if available0 -
Ask your insurance company which tyres to fit to your modified car.
Then sit back and wait.:A
Speed rating does indicate the stresses that are put through a tyre at a certain speed.
But it also takes into account the increased cornering loads, abnormal accelaration stress and more extreme temp range.
Just ask your insurer, :A:A:A:A
Cart before the horse is a phrase that jumps to mind even if your original query was about the slowest tyres you could get away with??I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

He's already decided to go for the cheaper option.
No doubt he will be back to tell us the insurance company know all about the modifications and that his premium is lower as it was remapped for economy.0 -
insurance company know of the remap thanks
As a percentage increase on stock BHP its not that great.
150 > 170.
Refitted some more kumho's same size 205, the KH31's v rated, bargain at £115 for two tyres fitted.0
