Ok let us know what your electricity supplier says or suggests. I imagine that this must have been a problem elsewhere at some point.
  • Thanks for this post have just realized the implication if you have a burglar alarm.

Yes, there is a very real adverse implication if you have a burglar alarm.

The burglar alarms should have a battery back up so many hours of no electric should not be a problem.

Food in a freezer that's been off overnight should be fine for many hours
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Yes that is so. But if left for long enough, any PIR's on the system would deplete the battery. I prefer electricity meters to be inside the house.
  • Am I missing something here ? I don't quite understand how they are "turning" off your electricity.

I don't recollect seeing any sort of breaker in an external meter box in any house that I have had - only the main fuses which are lockwired in place.

Some suppliers are now fitting isolator switches after the electricity meter. It saves calling out the electricity company to pull the fuse if you want to do work on the consumer unit (fuse box).
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

The isolator switch may have provision to fit a padlock in the on or off position.

Are you able to post a photo of it?

Two holes each side, run heavy plastic cable-ties through and round the door.

Keep a pair of snippers by your front door so you can release them easily. Unless your miscreant is carrying some form of sharp tool, this will elude them.

Put a battery portable PIR alarm inside the box, so that when the miscreant opens the door, it goes off?
