Hello

please may i have some help?

i had bought a brand in july 2011.

the car went back in to the garage on two seperate occasions and had to have a new clutch.

over the last three weeks my handbreak has failed on four occasions it rolls down the hill if its on a hill.

today the has been lifted to the garage

what rights do i have? i would like a different car as this has had too many faults now for a brand new car.

thanks

What did the garage say the faults are with the handbrake and clutch?

2 faults on a brand new car seems quite good these days and unlikely to get anything other than a repair.

Did they not teach you to leave the car in gear and kerb the wheels when you park it?

Get an automatic and use Park gear instead. Locks the gearbox so it physically can't move (unless you jack up one wheel).

Take it to a different dealership.

They stopped teaching that, when the Ark ran aground. Most cars these days have rear disc brakes and are more than capable of holding a car on an incline.

PS You can dispense with the guy walking in front of your car with a red flag as well.

It will still be under warranty. Assume they have given you a loan car whilst they are investigating the fault?
  • Handbrakes get looser though and leaving it in gear and pointed to the curb(if facing downhill) is just a common sense extra safety measure.I always check the car is in neutral before starting up so shooting forward isn't an issue.
Yes you can get handbrakes adjusted but a lot of people don't bother with maintenance like this until its MOT time.

Also, when turning left, I always wind the driver's window down and extend my right arm, to rotate it in an anti-clockwise direction. It just a common sense extra safety measure just in case my rear indicator bulb may have blown.

I also, always check oil and coolant levels before setting off on any journey. One can never be too safe.

There's a new PIG (park in gear) campaign now after a child was killed by a car whose handbrake failed.
