Noisey Neighbour

Hi all,

I wanted to get an insight on how people have dealt with very loud neighbors.

Examples include:

- loud shouting
- banging
- swearing
- music til 4am

I have spoken to the owner, but to no avail, as he thinks he has the right to make noise.

The issue is currently with our local councils Environmental Health team.

Any advice would be great.

Rgds,

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I have tried this website, and have taken the necessary action.

Just wanted to know apart from raising the issue to the council, what else have people done to resolve the issue. Did the council fit sound monitoring device to measure the level of noise? i know that statutory nuisance varies.

    Rgds,

    Rgds,
We had a problem with noisy neighbours, and we had to keep a diary first, and then the council fitted a noise monitor. All this took time of course, but we still carried on ringing the noise nuisance line.Complaining to the neighbour didn't help, in fact it made it worse. We ended up moving, and we rented the house out to students, who were by no means as quiet as we were.
The noisy neighbours stopped playing the loud music, having parties every weekend and sreaming and shouting and even though the students have left they haven't started again.
One point to note is if the noise is outside in the garden or on the street, then the Ant Social Behaviour Team become involved.
Good luck in trying to get something done about it.Been there and it's not nice.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the information.

The issue we have at the moment is that our neighbors start to play REALLY loud music after Environmental Health are closed, like yesterday 3 am. The music goes on till 5am.

The Environmental officers said they only have 2 recording music equipment for the borough, is there anything else we can do? We do not want to move as we like our home, but this issue is very stressful.

Create your own video evidence. Keep a diary. Tell your neighbours you sre doing this. We had this 3 yrs ago. The landlord of the offenders did not want to know-and those landlords were the ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPT. !!!!!
In the end I told EHO I was taking them to court. As a result they gave up the lease of the house as they couldn't deal with my constant complaints!
(the house was used for problem families)

    Be persistent.

If your neighbours rent from a council or Housing Association get them involved. Contact the police at night, they may be able to act as witnesses. Keep complaining.
Always complain in person to your neighbours at 7am.

I assume at some time they must sleep. Perhaps see how they like some nice music to keep them awake

    Hi all,

    Great feedback, thanks to all.

Who can I get to witness this when the music hits it peak? I will speak to EH when they open.

I am wondering if I should complain to the local MP.

Just for extra information, I collapsed due to exhaustion as i was not getting enough sleep last month, this was not due to the noise but due to lack of sleep. Now i am afraid this will reoccur as I cant sleep when they put their music on really loud. Wondering if this is more serious, or helps my case in any way.

    Rgds,
