present for my brother (who's about to walk the great wall of china)

Hi all

Just here to pick your brains.

My brother turns 28 on the 30th march, and I need a birthday present idea. He's into martial arts (teaches a class) and in April is about to walk parts of the great wall of china to raise money for guide dogs.

I just wondered if you had any pressie ideas. I got him body fat scales for Xmas as he's really into looking after himself, and in the past have always bought the usual vouchers for amazon and play etc. He doesn't drink, and has everything he needs for going walking etc, and my parents are getting him the currency and books of china etc

Any ideas welcome! Thank you!

what sort of budget did you have in mind? maybe a digital camera or something like that, so he can photograph the places he's been to?

Thanks jej. I was thinking around £20-£30. He's just got a digital camera, but maybe a subscription to a digital photography magazine

My cousin walked the wall and I bought him this before his travels, your brother may lean more on the martial arts culture side though.

You don't say if he'll be restricted for space but how about a little hamper/tuck box containing some English home comforts such as Rich Tea Biccies, marmite, PG tips etc that he won't be able to get whilst over there.

Depending on what you get, you should be able to squeeze something into a rucksack if he's limited for space.

Well done to him for supporting such a worthy cause.

If you do want to blow the budget then how about a Kindle; the cheapest is about 80 but they are ace; if he's into reading then it will be invaluable and won't take up much space.

The battery life is about 3 weeks bwtween charging.
  • How about a digital photo frame for him to display his pics when he gets back?

It won't use all your budget but how about a journal to write about his adventure. I did this when I went to Vietnam. It's amazing that although you remember stuff after you forget your feelings and emotions about what you see and do.

I second the journal idea - photos are great - but if he can put his thoughts and feelings down on paper ..........wow! what a wonderful aide memoir that would be in future - not to mention that it would be a wonderful thing to hand down to future generations!

    Good fortune to him btw!
