No, Windows XP has very few (well relatively few) drivers, compared to Windows 7 for example.

The main one to get is any to enable you to get an internet connection, then go to Windows update and let it do all updates (including optional). This might restore a few other drivers.

Then either download CPU-ID and use this to work out what motherboard you have and the drivers required for it or Google your pc brand/model.

You really did not need to buy a new XP disc, as by the sounds of it you already had a Recovery Partition.
Worse case scenario would have been a recovery disc for your machine.

    Next time, ask beforehand.

Well friends im back again. Was trying to get onto the internet to get what was required to allow me to resize the icons but nogo with the connection.I got the bt infinity broadband upgrade a few weeks ago and all 3 laptops work perfect with it (wireless). Now this desktop was connecting to the internet via a phone extension before I got the infinity upgrade but when bt engineer came he said it would no longer work on an extension only via main socket but as the desktop wasnt working anyway he did leave me a long ethernet cable to reach main socket.
So with the good people on heres help I done the system installation yesterday and plugged in the ethernet cable to go online. After putting in the bt setup disc it came up saying it cant detect either an ethernet cable or wireless connection! even though the ethernet cable is connected to computer and hub.So I rang bt and the gentleman on there took me through a few things on settings etc and came to the conclusion theres no LAN connection,he says I should buy a wireless dongle which I will certainly do but just wanted to know if that will cure the problem or is there anything else I will need?? as always many thanks in advance.

There is no LAN connection because you have not installed the Driver.

Look for the Service Tag at the back of the machine and quote it to me.

From whence did you get your XP Recovery disc and how much did you pay?

Do you have a link to the aforementioned disc? Want to see how it is sold and what is included. Either way, it really was not necessary.

Service Tag not recognised. Are you sure that it is correctly transcribed? Model number of PC?
