How much does it cost to fill? Well 12' is 345 cm, so the area of this is about 94000 sq. cm. Multiply this by the height of 30" (76cm) gives you about 7 million cubic cm, i.e. 7000 litres, i.e. 7 cubic metres. Looking on my Thames Water bill it's about £1.10 per cubic metre, so it will cost you about £8 to fill up - and I've a feeling that that is last year's price and there is a big hike this year.
The 10' one contains about 70% of the water of the 12' one, so will cost about £5.50 to fill.
These calculations are of course approximate - I imagine the 30" is the height to the edge of the pool rather than the water depth, for instance.
If you throw out this much water every couple of days, it's not only expensive (if you have a meter) but a shocking waste of resources. (Even in areas of high rainfall, water still needs to be purified and pumped about.) I would hope that a cover (reduce light, contamination and evaporation) and the filter (and possibly an additive, as mentioned above) would mean that you would only need to fill it up once a year.
Oh, and if an earlier poster is being serious, then seven tonnes on your living room floor will probably go straight through it (and it's too shallow to swim in).Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
Can you use cheap, thin bleach instead of the chlorine?0

Dont' be surprised if we're facing water restrictions this summer, probably meaning no use of pool, probably why they have reduced these prices to shift their stock before restrictions are imposed!
If someone can correct me on this though, I'll probably buy one :-)
if you put clorine in and use your filter you will only need to fill it up the once ...Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

no way would i put bleach in .. i go to the local swimming pool suppliers and it comes in a bottle that sets out the correct amount.. i wouldnt put myself or my family in the pool if it had bleach in it.. .. cant see the local swimming pools putting in bleach if they ran out of chlorine ..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Just done a quick bit of research.
To stop the water going green with Algae you can buy Algaecide here for £7.95

Probably safer than bleach. Don't want all your pool users going peroxide blonde over the summer!0 -
Hi,
ive got one of these, the kids love it, cant get them out,
but its freezing and never warms up,
I use chlorine from a local spa shop its £20 for a 5 gallon tub which ive had two years and only used a quarter off, ask for some test strips when buying it.
once full it will last all summer, just keep topping the chlorine up every 5-7 days, buy the cover and get a mop to mop the bottom with, also I use a 99p kids fishing net to get the bugs off the top [woolworths],
asda do some great inflatable crocs, whales, tyres £3.49 last year
well worth the money
p.s if on grass it will rot and smell after so long :eek:0 -
I'd buy one now but hubby says it would be a one day wonder for the kids, especially if this summer is as bad as last years, freezing and rainy. Anyone know of a heated variety??????0
