They obviously think that in this day and age people do that still! Cold callers would just be told 'put somehing in the post'!
My dad seems to think you turn up at a company and they will give you job and I am a liar when I say I have to send a letter and a CV.
The point is LMA, thats always the way it used to be, when I left school (many years ago) on the Friday, on the Saturday I walked into the Coop, asked if there were any vacancies, the manager came out, asked me a few details, and i started on Monday.
Next job I called the Wills factory In Newcastle on the Friday, asked to come in on Monday for an interview and started on the following Monday,
So perhaps I can understand why he thinks that way.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

JCP staff are totally clueless and don't live on this planet. As mentioned earlier Companies will do their best to avoid cold calls.
It's best beforehand to try and get somehow a contact name for HR or a managers name.
Personally if it was me, I would just make up a couple of names of companies on The JCP agreement each week that you called because they aint gonna check. Even if they do, I imagine the conversation would Go something along the lines of,"Hello we are calling fom the JCP, just checking to see if Mr Joe Bloggs called you last week to enquire about job vacancies". Would the person on the other end of the phone be likely to know whether they had or hadn't?
The staff are just there to tick boxes and to make sure that you are satisfying your JCP agreement.0 -
With regard to the OP - take a moment to breathe and relax, believe you me it could be a lot worse, I have signed off because my situation with the JC was so unbearable. Unfortunately when you sign on they have a form on their screen and they are literally ticking boxes, so they want to make sure you have done exactly what is on your agreement. I was surprised when I took in my list of jobs I had applied for that I was told "gosh you've applied for a lot" then I was asked "why have you not applied for any that match your agreement?". It happened that in those two weeks there was nothing that fitted my agreement, which was to work in TV, and it's possible one week to have five suitable jobs, the next week nothing. Therefore I had applied for other jobs I was able to do. So this is why they are asking about making phone calls, it was on my agreement too to call up an employer once a week.
I think it depends who you sign on with, as to whether you get asked these things. If I had a nice person we'd chat and they wouldn't even look at my jobs. If I had the meanie then I'd have everything picked over.
I would suggest you do what you have to do to placate the JC, then spend the rest of your time applying for jobs that suit you, or doing courses in order to set up your own business. I used to ring up my mates who worked in TV and have a nice natter about their jobs, and put that down as someone I had spoken to.
I also think in terms of ringing up companies it really depends on the type of job, and whether the company would have anyone who can speak to cold callers. The best option might be to send in a CV then ring up a week later and say did you get it, could I come in for a chat. HR people spend their time trying to find really good candidates, so if you can introduce yourself and then keep going back to them so you're not forgotten you make their job easier. Do remember they are often told by a manager that they need to recruit an xyz and they then have to find someone who's available and not useless.0
