Jobseeker's Agreement & Phoning Employers

No the agreement is to COLD CALL employers speculatively. Not a good thing to do at all IMO
It's pretty proactive. Speculative enquiries can turn up vacancies that would be perhaps hidden otherwise. Plus, you get to cherry-pick who you are calling. Lots of people won't bother because they lack the motivation or capability to do it effectively. In the very least, you can get a contact name etc who is relevent enough to try again in two/three months.
And takes less than 30 minutes to call say 6 employers. Most people will have free calls as part of their phone agreement, so it's cost effective too. Much more so than sending speculative CVs which are more than likely going to end up in the bin."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
They obviously think that in this day and age people do that still! Cold callers would just be told 'put somehing in the post'!November5th wrote: »The JC do seem really hung up on this and turning up at a companies reception. They should go on a course.
My dad seems to think you turn up at a company and they will give you job and I am a liar when I say I have to send a letter and a CV.0 -
I can tell you my old company would not take cold calls. Plus I have no money to do so.It's pretty proactive. Speculative enquiries can turn up vacancies that would be perhaps hidden otherwise. I email companies and last week did 56 different ones. This allows the company to read or not read your CV and take it from there. Phoning a company you are forcing them to talk to you and companies do not like it, that's if you can get past switchboard.0 -

How do you know that your email is getting to the right person unless you call first? Spamming your CV out to endless companies isn't going to get you a job. It's not job hunting. It's wasting your (precious) time. You need to be much more focussed.
As for your old company, that's one company. I can tell you of loads of companies where this wouldn't be the case."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I always just used to make sure that I called one agency a week. Usually I had a good reason but sometimes it was "i'm still looking, anything new in?" "no" "ok, have a good weekend!".
(I know a lot of you think agencies are scum. However thats a seperate discussion!)0 -

Because if you look on their websites you can find a contact email for HR, or on Linkedin
How is cold calling job hunting then? Its being a pain in the !!!! to people!
If you know loads of companies who take cold calls please tell us the names.0 -

As I said - spamming out your CV to HR contacts isn't going to help. It's pointless. You're never going to stand out from the other enquiries they get with that technique. You may as well not bother.
And if you think I'm going to post my employment history and business contacts on a public forum here then seriously, common sense truly has let the building "One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Erm.....exactly HOW do you think job agencies get their vacancies to advertise?
Do you think the business somehow magically comes to them?
Calling exsiting and new contacts has always been a good way of finding business. If it wasn't, why do you think so many companies employ telesales people?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
