All you have to do is you see a car for sale at dealers you search around get the best insurane quote get the ( ref ) For it and keep it .
You turn up view the car you buy it call the insurance company Quote your ref voila off you go .
I know in your case it's to late .. But its just sheer madness and risky to rely on others honesty to do it for you .0 -
How are you doing shadowfnx? Any news on your situation? Hope you are getting it sorted ok, I read through your thread and felt so sorry for your predicament. Its so easy to see how to prevent these things in retrospect, yet even easier to make an honest misguided mistake. The dealer sounds like a total douche.GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

Thank you for the well wishes. Your description of the dealer sounds about right unfortunately!
On the bright side the police have not been in touch, and I remain hopeful that they will not pursue it any further. The damage report came through yesterday, and the car has been deemed a total loss (all of the repair work would have cost approximately £8000 plus VAT). The engineer gave the car a value of £4400. My solicitors will be chasing this from the at-fault party, along with some uninsured losses such as loss of earnings and so forth.
Once all is said and done, I should have enough to purchase a similar vehicle. This time I'll get all of the insurance paperwork done right away, and take a mechanic friend with me to check everything out. I've learnt a tremendous amount this past week, and am better off for it. With any luck my 2nd car will be just as good as my 1st one, if not better!0 -
Insurance is by "way of bond" if you had temporary insurance you would have been issued with a certificate or cover document such as you get with hire cars.
If you have only taken the word of a car dealer, then I am afraid you have lost your licence if you are a new driver and if you have lied to the police at roadside about insurance, possibly your liberty as well for perverting the course of justice if it comes to light.
If you have not told your new insurance about the RTC, that will be voided as well.
The vehicle does not have insurance on it as a private car, you do as a driver, no certificate = no insurance.

ive read the first post so dont shoot me

nothing more
nothing less

LITTLE STORY FOR YOU
lad i know found out it was cheaper to get a traders policy so as to run cars he couldnt normally afford to insure
he sold the car but failed to cancel this car off his traders policy
he was then pursued by the insurance company third party that had been hit by the driver of the car he had sold0 -

Some are even able to issue their own tax discs. How do I know that? - I used to be a CEO / traffic warden and I once stuck CLE2 notices on 5 cars outside a dealership on the pavement and reported them for no tax. I then found out that the dealer could issue and register its own tax discs and all I'd effectively done was cost them 6 months on each car and they could no longer sell them as new - they'd had to register them to tax them:rotfl: Still serves them right for causing so much hassle with the locals. I rarely ever did CLE2 tax evasion reports but these guys had been taking the pee for months.
O/T I know, but presumably these vehicles had no registration plates? How did you identify them to the dealer? What was stopping them from just moving them to another place and forgetting about it, as they were clearly not identifiable by any means.0
