Why shouldn't Auction winners have to pay automatically?

I think 4 days plus however long they get after a dispute has been raised seems a little too lax. Surely wishing buyers to pay within one day of winning isn't an unfair thing?

Totally not unfair!
I know exactly where you are coming from.
What store can you go to...either online or walk in store, pick a product, wait x amount of days, then pay when it suits you and expect it to still be there waiting for you:(
It really doesn't make ANY sense and frustrates the hell outter me.
I have in the past cancelled listing and claimed goods where damaged...just to stick two fingers up to buyer:p0 -
I don't really mind waiting a week as long as I have some contact from the buyer so I know that they do actually plan on paying!
Had one in the past where I had to open a NPB for a 99p item (with free postage!) and then the buyer paid on the last possible day. I was furious.0 -
It is a bit unfair if the buyer only has internet access at work.
But 4 days is stretching it somewhat. Sometimes people need to get rid of stuff quick or want to post it before they go on holiday etc.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Maybe you need an option for "immediate payment", and just sell to anyone that's online when the auction finishes
I don't mind.
If I put in a maximum bid, and go away for the weekend, if you're not happy when I win, cancel it and sell it for less.
I can always buy from someone else.

Its not a problem is i hear from the buyer, but i never do, they either pay the day i open the case or on the 4th day...so that says it all
When i win an auction I always pay that day or the next day, on one occassion i was planning on bidding on something & i would not of had money til 2 days after auction, I contacted buying and asked if it would be ok to pay 2 days later.
They said it was ok, I didn't end up bidding in the end because it went for more than i was willing to pay.
Just a little consideration is not to much to expect.0 -
If someone makes a bid, they should have those funds ringfenced in Paypal, and if they win the auction, the funds automatically get debited.

You can get immediate payment on Ebay!!!
Just tick the Paypal immediate payment option in your listings
The buyer has to pay by Paypal immediately - which means your listing stays live until they payMaybe you need an option for "immediate payment",
.
See aboveWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -

i guess its from when sending in cheques was more common , dont see why it cant be instant , when confirming your bid be made to sign in to paypal and agree that it pays automaticly if you win0

So are we suggetsing then that paypal becomes compulsory on all auctions and no other payment methods are allowed?
That is not usually a popular suggestion for sellers especially where they are hoping for cash on collection.
Also what about combined invoices where the discount has to be manually calculated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
