Why shouldn't Auction winners have to pay automatically?

Ebay automatically sends a reminder email after 2 or 3 days as well, you may be able to switch it off, they know they've won & need to pay.
I don't bother with personal reminders just let ebay do it & if the payment's not made, it opens after the 4 days.0 -
Which still wouldn't be necessarily appropriate for cash on collection, as arrangements could possibly take longer than 4 days to make with the buyers.
The best results with eBay come from flexibility. There are certain things that are non-negotiable (like not sending before you get payment), but I like to keep my options for dealing with buyers open - then you get fewer problems and more success, making your experience a lot better. I haven't had an NPB since the system changed down from 8 days to open to 4 days to open, but in general, I'd rather someone paid up eventually and got their item than stamp my feet and tap my watch about it. It ends up engendering a poor climate between both buyer and seller and while some buyers are problematic, the vast majority of problems can be avoided by communicating and co-operating with buyers rather than seeing them as some kind of milk cow to be squeezed dry and then cast off.

I can just imagine what will happen.
Scammers will open accounts....they will list items at silly prices so that they get the bids, wait until the item finishes and then sit back and watch all the cash roll in from the Paypal automated system that you want to bring in.
Those accounts will be emptied and closed before anyone knows whats happening.
You can never implement automatic payment.0 -
Just because you put "x days to post" doesn't mean you won't or shouldn't get marked down, a customer may read your terms (generally customers don't read anything!) but they don't have to be happy with them.Youre missing my point, which is that my T&Cs are clear and communicated up front, they are not against ebay or Paypal rules, and that if I do what I say what I do, then I dont expect low stars for dispatch time. And if you dont like it, thats fine, just dont bid on an item where you fundamentally disagree with the T&Cs.
If your auction ends on a Monday and you can only post Tuesday and Wednesday but your buyer does not pay until Thursday, then you have a point.
If I'm ever going on holiday I end auctions a good week before leaving and let the customers know on the listings, we've still had customers paying after 8 days.
Generally though if you are uptight with customers laying down rules and unreasonable time limits you will end up not doing too well..0 -
It's irritating.
I'm normally a buyer on ebay, if I bid, my t&c's are quite clear, I use exactly what ebay stipulates.
I expect anyone that accepts my bid to adhere to them, if they don't, they shouldn't be on ebay.
And yes, if they aren't going to honour the terms I bid on, I'll be marking down accordingly, it's not like the requirements are hidden.
So be aware, if I bid, and you accept, don't complain later.
If you don't like the terms I bid on - don't list.0 -

By bidding on an auction, you accept the T&Cs on that item.....not silly ones buried in the text, but standard ebay ones, and ones specified by me in the ebay provided fields e.g. postage £1.85, upto 3 days to despatch, £10.00 item cost, second class post etc.
If you have different T&Cs as a buyer, Im happy to discuss them with you, e.g. combined postage, upgrade to first class post, quicker dispatch time, but if we can't agree terms in advance, then my seller T&Cs stand, and by bidding, you accept them.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

So we agree then, no silly ones like immediate payment, 10% by paypal, and you agree I have up to 4 days to pay you, and cash on collection means just that. I pay you cash when I collect.
You carry on listing on ebay, and I'll carry on bidding on these terms then.0 -
It isn't the problem with the system, it is the system. Ebay want their sellers to send as swiftly as possible, that's the point of the stars. There's no difference with that than someone being marked down for overcharging on postage, the postage is there to be seen after all.See, thats the problem with the system..0
