My son is on a 18month contract with Tmobile. However the phone has recently developed a fault, because the contract is passed 12 months Tmobile will not fix or replace the phone under warranty. I would have thought that the phone would still be under warranty until the contract expires. Is this the usual case?

No, unless you've paid for extra insurance cover. The phone is not rented, it is his property from day one, and once the warranty expire it is his responsibility.
The contract does not 'expire', it reaches the end of it's minimum term and then continues as a 30 day rolling contract until you give notice. On that basis the warranty could be for years.
You could try asking the manufacturer (nicely) if it's just out of warranty, but they're not obliged to assist,

So in other words you are better off with a 12 month contract, at least then your phone is covered for any warranty claims.

What phone? Many (if not most) have 24 months manufacturer's warranty.

Not sure of the model but I know it is a HTC phone.

Only if you insist on an annual upgrade-and a 12m contract will cost much more.. Double check the actual current warranty.

It's 24 for HTC. Contact the manufacturer.
  • With respect, people need to understand what they are getting in to before walking off with something. HTC are pretty good with their repairs. I had one sent off and was sent back within 3 days.

This clearly proves that they are good. The fact that many other people had quite different experience doesn't matter. Neither does the fact that they've been on Watchdog recently.

The service worked very well for me so can't complain. I am aware that others have problems but it is often better than going through CPW,P4U etc.

Sadly there will always be people who are unhappy with a service but I don't pay too much attention to Watchdog, lots of over excited people trying to make a point.
