  • Take a look at a bunch of adverts for IT jobs. Most do not ask for qualifications (especially those relating to programming / web design etc). They ask for knowledge and ability, not pieces of paper with your name on them.

Save £4000 by buying the appropriate books and teaching yourself.
A friend has just done one of their courses. He effectively taught himself, but paid about £1500 for the privilege.

If you need to do any exams, you can register for them yourself.

They will promise you amazing careers support. You can get this for free too elsewhere.

There are numerous forums on the net from which you can get all the expert technical advice you will ever need, and for free. This is what I did.

If you do have one of their salesmen round (or advisors as I think they call them), I would suggest you record the entire meeting so you have a record of any promises made regarding course quality, training materials, support etc. This should not be a problem for the salesman if he only intends to tell you the truth.

If he/she refuses to allow the conversation to be recorded, then ask them to leave.

Since most of the complaints about them centre around poor training, poor materials and poor support, a recording of their salesman telling you the opposite will be very useful should you be unhappy with the course you have paid a lot of money for.

Although I’m new to this forum, I feel that I have known everyone here for some time. I have, for a while, been considering taking up a Computeach course but the reviews I have seen from 2012 and other subsequent years in many forums like this one (Consumer Action Group, Mr Daz, The Review Centre, Ciao), have since put me off. It is of little consolation, but thanks to your collective opinions, my decision to not to sign up has been made a great deal easier. Thank you.

  • I don't know if this will be of any help, but I have seen many comments about people wanting to cancel their contracts with them and thought I would put my opinion to it. To existing customers that would like to cancel their contract with Computeach, and have, through reading these and other forums in my research of the company prior to joining, interpreted many procedures that really should not form part of their practice. As my current role is in the Credit Control field, I decided to briefly look into possible ways that an existing customer, that has a desire to cancel their contract, might approach. I am not a lawyer or specialist and my advice here is no substitute for seeking the advice of someone in that area of expertise. Fortunately, neither am I a customer of theirs nor do not have access to the terms of their contract that you all must have signed, so that is something you will have to reference for yourselves.
Reading many other forums, including this one, I can see that they have a ‘cooling off period’ of 7 days and an automatic renewal system. Their handling of both of these may be avenues of exploration for you to take up. According to The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations in Section 10, everyone has a right to cancel their contract under certain circumstances and you may give notice to cancel which will be deemed appropriate if you send it by post, hand deliver to the address last known to you, send it by facsimile to the business facsimile number last known to you or send it by electronic mail to the business email address. As their business is not for the supply of goods or services the price of which is dependent on fluctuations in the financial market which cannot be controlled by them, for the supply of goods made to the consumer’s specifications or clearly personalised or which by reason of their nature cannot be returned or are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly, for the supply of audio or video recordings or computer software if they are unsealed by the consumer, for the supply of newspapers, periodicals or magazines or for gaming, betting or lottery services, then they are not exempt from providing a right to cancel.

Information in Section 12 details the 7 days in their cooling off period which you, as the consumer, must, by agreed consent, to having had ended. If they haven’t notified you of your right to cancel, then the contract may be deemed as null and void. This may also apply to the accessing of their online facilities during this time, if they had not notified you that by accessing their online services during the period would deem your ‘consent’ to the contract commencing, then that might be construed as “unfair”. The seven days should commence once you have signed the contract and, technically, should not be voided simply if you have accessed their online systems but still wish to cancel. Remember, if their sales person did not notify you of this, then they could be in breach of the contract.

Not having seen their contract phrasing, it is possible they may have written into them a total period of 12 months for the contract where you are bound into paying on a monthly basis for that term, similar to a gym membership. However, I have noted that many people have complained about their ‘automatic renewal’ system that is in place. Researching it online, this is also deemed “unfair” and, looking at Citizens Advice, that also would automatically cancel the contract. Search the ‘adviceguide’ website for ‘Cancelling a gym membership’ which would be a similar contractual situation.

In such a position I would do your research and look at your own contract for those specific terms, and, if they haven’t advised you of that, put it in writing to the management stating that it is grossly unfair - a small claims court would deem it so - that your consent was not given, thereby cancelling the contract at that point and cancelling your direct debit if you made one. You probably won’t get a refund on what you have paid up until now but at least you will not be paying any more for the services. Above all, take advice from a professional. I may be wrong and I would love for others to contribute their experience of obtaining cancellation.

    Good luck to all.

Does anyone have any idea how much Computeach charge for their courses? Im interested in the Web Design or Networking courses.

I don't want to go through the only process because you have to give them a phone number and I don't want to be bombarded with calls!

In july 2012 I hired somone for business with a view for training, enquired the same courses and found that the local college do it cheaper

He goes to college doing Higher national diploma level 4 part time which teached web design, site accessbility and herustics of design, and networking servers and computers ect,

In my own option I would aviod skillstrain or computertech, you can learn online these days for free and partly by reading books like ccna cisco books off amazon then booking yourself in for tests at a testing centre. Alot of t
raining providers dont keep the courses up to date in terms of technology changes

f your serious about networking go for A+ then ccna certification but one at a time http://www.amazon.com/Security-Official-Certification-Guide-640-553/dp/1587202204 then self register after study for the testing it works out cheaper

For web design check out tim burgess lee or jacob neilson usbility guides online
