Nope, withdrew my 1 month & a bit wages & went down the street & opened an account with Halifax.0 -
I assume that the OP has a basic bank account with RBS group (either Natwest or RBS themselves.) There was a great deal of information and press coverage before these accounts were changed last year together with correspondence from the bank describing the change.0

Yes, this can be very annoying. We have a Natwest (basic) account and we can use the local Natwest machine or the Post Office one. Both of which have been out of order for the last two weeks."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

My Mum's RBS card only works at RBS hole in the walls now. I'm avoiding them at the moment as I don't want my card switched over, mine still works in any.~
Heaven's heard me calling. The stars have all aligned.0 -
Patronus, it only applies to the Key account, which has been rebranded as Basic. All other account cards can be used as before.0

Really? ATM's were commonplace in NZ in the 80's! I thought the UK would be years ahead! You could even use debit cards to pay for petrol...0 -

We got a pay packet with real cash in it....
and there were more local branches of banks instead of just High Street ones....
Ah, them were the days... :rotfl:“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
But cash machines were around then. I'm 40 now (eek) and got my first cashcard at 16 years old. Having said that I remember the joy of a little envelope stuffed with cash on payday0

According to Wikipedia, they've been around in the UK since the 60's. Originally. though, they were only outside banks and they didn't accept each other's cards. Not like today where you can find them all over the place and there's a network that enables one bank to accept another's cards (it they want to!)
I've only ever been paid cash for temporary jobs!0 -
Hiya
I really feel the pain on this one, I have the natwest account that meant from recently I could only use natwest and rbs machines, I didnt think it would be a major issue at the time, but it turned out to be a massive pain (indicated by having at one point to drag the MIL and AIL round to find a cash point to pay parking ..... this did not make me popular!!)
I upgraded the other day, as it happens the new account is a good deal for me , as I really am looking for iphone insurance and the other benefits, so oddly the £8 a month actually works out cheaper for me...... but
the cynic in me somewhat wonders if it is a coincidence that they change the accounts to make things harder to get cash out and then offer an account with a fee
As I said - I was shopping for phone insurance and travel insurance anyway but if I hadnt it would have been a swiz"I havent failed, Ive found 10,000 ways that dont work" Thomas Edison
