Bank card doesn't work in all hole in walls now

I have bank card with NatWest in England and I can use it to withdraw from hole in the wall anywhere.
Visiting Scotland, my card wasn't accepted in Bank of Scotland, Cooperative. Luckily I had enough cash to take the ferry across the water and found a Royal Bank of Scotland hole in the wall. Although they said they wouldn't give me cash over the counter inside.
So now I have to upgrade, change all my details everywhere.

My OH is with Lloyds TSB and has a similar problem, he can only use certain cash points.

He can't use the ATM at the Post Office but he can go in and take it out over the counter.

Our local ASDA has four ATMs and he can only use one of them, the other three don't accept his card.

That's odd. RBS and NatWest are the same company!

im with Lloyds TSB and can only use their cash points..can use the post office counter to get out money..its a pain

My Lloyds TSB card works in every machine I've tried.

did we not have to make time to go to the bank in the week ,and they where closed on Saturdays too,but we could use cheques if the bank would let you have a guarantee card,i was twenty when they would let me have one

Years ago before debit cards,I was based at RAF Kinloss in Scotland so I moved my bank to the local Clydesdale bank,part of the then Midland bank.
I was sent on a course to RAF Cosford in Wolverhampton & found my cash card wouldn't work in any cash machine.
When I contacted the Clydesdale the next day,I was told that they had 2 types of cash cards,a red one (that I had) that could only be used in Scotland,and a black one that could be used anywhere.
I asked if I could then withdraw money at the branch of the Midland on camp & was told no.
So I informed them I would then use my Visa card but on return to Kinloss after my 7 week course was finishe,I'd be closing my account & charging them the interest I'd be paying on my visa card.
When I returned to Kinloss,I did indeed close my account,but when I went into do so,the bank manager wanted to see me,he had a brand new black card waiting for me & would I reconsider closing my account.(apparently they had a limit of the amount of customers they loose & if a customer left unhappy,it reflected on the branch,so I was told)

I think which machines you can use your card in depends on what type of account you have.

If you have a Basic Bank Account then a lot of banks have restricted which machines you can use as they are charged everytime you use a different banks machines.
The same with savings accounts.

I have a Lloyds TSB debit card (issued in Sotland) and so long as I use a Link cash machine in the UK I have never had a problem. Withdrawn cash all over GB, Channel Islands, Spain, Ireland, India, HK, China - just inform bank when I will be travelling abroad so a marker put on my account. Only time I had a problem was when visiting Florida. No problems when visiting NY or California.
