Oh no you don't. I'm 'avin it. 0.575 O's here today:D
I'm blaming it on the solar eclipse. Reckon we had it today.....all day:eek:
Rubbish day in Lincolnshire without a single shaft of sunlight. Peak generation under 500w!

Hi
The issue here revolves around a basic question .... if you didn't have pv and proportional diversion how would you heat the DHW - with cheap gas or with electricity at around 3x the cost ?
If the answer's 'electricity' then your methodology would be correct (but sanity questionable) and if 'gas' the saving/repayment is likely a little overstated, probably moving your breakeven point from 5 years to closer to 15 ..

Mmmmmmm!!!!!! My sanity has always been questionable!! You ask Mart and Oscar!!!
In answer to your question we would heat our hot water with logs. Our radiators are heated by logs too because we have no gas supply to the house!! We have been heating all our hot water in the summer by logs and therefore not putting the immersion heater on to save money!! Hence the idea of having the iBoost now that we have solar pv!!! So for us I worked out the payback on electric only. But, for others with gas they would be able to work out the payback between electric or gas.
So you see there is a method in my madness
Have not got a generation reading for today folks cos it's my birthday and I'm too full of cake to go and look:rotfl:
Will update tomorrow!!!!

Thanks .... silly me, I simply assumed that reading '(Gas is switched off)' to mean that the gas is switched off instead of 'we have no gas supply to the house!!' ... there you go, assumptions again - and there's me questioning someone else's sanity ...

No Z it is my fault actually as I did not state properly about the gas side of things. To put you in the picture. When we moved in 6 years ago we removed a very old gas boiler and turned the gas supply off because we installed a multi fuel stove with a back boiler in the living room. This supplies all of our hot water and heats the 10 radiators in the house. We also installed a wood burning cooker stove in the kitchen. But, we still had a gas supply at the house if we wanted to buy a new boiler later on etc. etc. Some time later our gas company introduced a standing charge and we were told we had to pay it even though we did not consume any gas in the house. So cut a long story short we had no choice but to have the meter removed or pay the daily standing charge. so in theory have a gas bill to pay albeit only the standing charge.
Later we installed the solar panels and now want to install iboost or similar. We are exporting most of our generated leccy because we only currently use around 2kWh per day and export the rest!! This was one of the reasons we had a 2.4kw system installed and not a 4kw.
Maybe I should have explained all this in my earlier post!! But I honestly thought it would be too much waffle to ask a simple question as to whether we should get an iBoost or the Immersun.
So I am pleased to say that both of us are completely sane - I think|||||||||||
Thanks for your posts!!!!

This eclipse malarky is no good for a SE facing system.
The moon is taking a chunk out of the Sun already.0 -
The eclipse had no noticeable affect on generation here - virtually zero before, during and after2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.0
-
A definite dip in generation during the eclipse for me....3.924kWp (12X327Wp SunPower). SolarEdge SE3500 inverter.
Surrey/SE. 30 degree roof pitch, chimney shading from mid afternoon.0 -
4 O's (16 kWh) today. Even with a lump of rock in the way of the Sun for an hour this morning.0
