As for the iBoost, I have recorded 104.49 kWh in just under four months. Assuming 75% efficiency this is 104.49/0.75 = 139.32 kWh equivalence in gas saving. Incremental costs of gas including VAT is £0.03034 per kWh. Savings through iBoost = 139.32 * 0.03034 = £4.23 in 4 months. Not very good! My thought now is that I will never divert more than 4 kWh per day to water without major modifications to the system. My annual projection is £30 saving. [PS the poster considering a £400 iBoost investment should think carefully before proceeding. Payback could be greater than a decade.]

Thanks for you reply it is much appreciated.

I have worked out payback roughly at around just under 5 years for us. Plus needing less logs to heat the water in the summer!! (Gas is switched off) Today we used in the region of 2kWh and exported 5.5kWh. I have worked this figure out by estimating the iBoost would divert enough electricity to heat our hot water for around 8 months of the year approx. So a tank of hot water using imported electricity would be 36p per day x 243 days = £87.48 x 5 = £437. Maybe you worked your figures out a different way to what I have. Can't see it being 10 years though!!!!

I've seen a couple installed...as countryman say's, looks easy. The ones I've seen are only used to heat water. Not sure about Immersun, but believe the wireless one allows you to divert elsewhere. Would be handy if you had underfloor heating or another leccy eater.

I can give you the info on how to make a device to heat your water for £25.00.. but you would need to change your immersion for a 1kW;)

We do have another leccy eater in the form of under floor heating in the bathroom. But, thought it was the Immersun that could use a 2nd output and the iBoost just one!! Or am I thinking incorrectly???

Would be too costly to change the immersion heater to a 1kw me thinks!!! Thanks anyway!!!

I've had my Immersun since July 2013. Based on my gas use for hot water only over the summer, it costs me about 6kWh of gas per day to heat water. 20m unlagable pipe plays its part. Using Immersun I need about 2kWh electricity per day to do the same. So far I have put about 1200kWh through the Immersun, including some space heating on the second output. Run the maths whichever way you want - 2kWh x 625 days or so x 11p, or 6kWh x 625 x 4p - and I have saved about £140 over 20 months. Does it for me and gas is off for 6 months a year. I was talking with the Immersun technical guys recently and they informed me that you can put the device on a 13A plug if need be. Not something to do for the immersion heater of course but if using for other devices like space heating makes DIY installation easy

Thanks for that info that is useful!!!

Got 7.58kWh = 3.15 O's and we exported 5.58kWh  It is just not good enough, this must stop!! :rotfl:

Sorry edwink. Did not make myself clear.:)

It is the Immersun that I meant.

I wonder tho, how long the payback time would be:eek:

Thanks for the link!!! I think with seeing the cost of the Immersun we will stick with the iBoost!! They quote £395 for installing the iBoost so our local installers @ just over £400 seems pretty ok. Still will keep researching for a bit though to see what else I come up with!!

    Thanks again very useful!!

Seems like a near role reversal yesterday as I had close to a Hawaii. British weather...

Talking of weather - looking poor again for a while. Indded a SMOG warning is out for the South - be wary if you are astmatic or just old and had it.

Good day yesterday, strong gen all day, and the first day we were generating at 6pm (just a few watts).

Got 18.3kWh, so our first combined triple O .... (have we got a name for that? Did folk like 'a Bond' for a double O?) .... 3.28 Os.

Predicting 99% now, and still some good days ahead, so fingers crossed for a third + month, not had a start to a year like that before.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Currently generating 1.33kWh back home in HX according to Wattson.

How about a "semi" for half an O? :D
