Looks like you should have all relocated your panels to my area today, my SSW managed a very healthy 2.55 O's, ESE did 1.8 O's and the WNW....er....dunno....but it was generating!!smiley-happy114.gif

Ps, My SSW is now on 66% PVGIS for January
    2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)
  • Yes, not a lot being generated at the mo!

Next door neighbour thinking of following my lead and investing in panels but has heard there is a new generation (no pun intended!) of panels coming along that will be much more efficient, and should he wait.

    Any advice?

Yes, he should wait; I have a Black & White television, which I am still watching:waiting for colour to drop down in price...... smiley-laughing021.gif

    2.2 O's today..not interested until it hits a/an HAWAII.....coffee.gif
2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

Black and White CRT TV!!! Have you looked at how much energy that uses?

I think the time may now be rife for a new TV - a good business case can be made on the energy saving alone.

By the way, if it's a valve TV, send the old valves to Bletchley Park - they need them for Colossus.

The day closes out with 4.743 kWh, which gives a mahoosive 1.186 ho's.

Off to ma pit now, weather looks like we might get some sun today, but Monday looks better?

If your friend can accommodate a 4kWh array on his roof using standard panels, then there's little point in waiting. All that will do is to delay the point at which he gets some return from the roof (assuming he's made the decision to go ahead). The cost of an installation may fall if he waits, but so too might the FIT.

The return on capital employed is (conservatively) in the 15%- 20% range (mine made 21.25% last year). The best ISAs are 3%! Even if you write off the cost of the installation after 20 years & allow for a replacement inverter, the return only drops by 5%.

(Calculations based on FIT + £250 solar use)
    4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North Lincs
    Installed June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400
    Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh

As Nick says, no point delaying.
Prices received this week from a recognised installer that has done some installs for folk on here (not mine though) are:

    £4k for a single aspect
    16 panel Amerisolar system
    Solis dual tracker inverter
    Schletter roof mount
All DC/AC kit inc. gen meter
10 Year RECC insurance backed warranty
scaffold and access kit as req, installation etc.
MCS registration help completeing paperwork (although this is straightforward)

If you want black panels then its
£4.5k with Perlight Delta triple black, all rest same as above.

The second quote is amazing, I think? Less than a year after my install and a grand cheaper - not to be sniffed at!

And a third of the price I paid 3.5 years ago.

Agree with the others, with a technology like PV you could wait forever for the next best panels - the technology is constantly changing; however, the FIT continues to decline so you won't gain anything by waiting in my opinion.
