In my case that's a disaster since I want to collect the water but for most people it doesn't really matter because the gutters are there to stop gentle rain trickling off the roof, dribbling down the wall and soaking into it. Anything shooting past the gutters is unlikely to dribble down the wall.

Good point. I was thinking water might overshoot the gutter then get blown against the walls. But thinking about it, if the wind was blowing hard towards the walls, then the rain is less likely to 'charge' down the panels and overshoot in the first place? There's probably some complex fluid dynamics going on, but I wouldn't have a clue. :o

Onto generation, got 0.7 O yesterday, but still a very poor start, for a very poor month. Perhaps time for some sunny song links again?

I'm sure there will be a (small) number of occasions when water can shoot past gutter but then be blown back onto wall.

Even the occasional soaking of a wall shouldn't cause too many problems (the cavity ought to take care of that). What does cause internal damp is a wall constantly being wet when gutters leak (or just aren't there) so water has to dribble down the wall.

Change the gutter not the panels?

I have square large volume gutters - because back in the days when "building control" was a local authority service for semi literate builders, not a tax raising profit centre; I was told my extension would need an extra down pipe and a soak-away (into sodden clay soil rather than piped into an existing farm ditch).

My panels are almost flush with the lower edge of my roof but I have had no problems with rain coming over the edges the pitch of my roof is very shallow........... I have however had the problem with snow coming off in very large chunks. At one point last year there was so much snow / ice IN the gutters I thought they may come down. I did mention on a post last year that in the winter I do park my car further away from the house just to ensure there is no small avalanche onto the roof.

When we had our panels installed we were told the distance from the guttering should be no less than 8 inches.

Not doing very well generation wise at the moment as have loads of lovely trees shading my panels. Beautiful colours out the back in the autumn though. Like others had great generation this summer so not complaining.

Decent, decent I would call it very indecent, mind you, from your recent figures, it is an ascent, I guess. However, it is still obscene in the current weather conditions..!! :D

A respectable 1 O' (singular) today, given the current weather conditions....coffee.gif

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).
