I know this if off topic,
I don't mind people going off topic John because the nature of the thread means that it will usually be back on topic within hours.

I believe there are two of you at home, but do you have the 'short flush' option, and do you tend to take deep baths or short showers (or vice versa)? I don't have a basement and most storage would need to be underground.

Messy 3 days, and more to come. Got 14, 8.9 and 15 respectively, which equates to 2.5, 1.6 and 2.7 O's.

My estimated total (if rest of June is average) has now slipped under the 700 figure. :( But still way ahead of the 640 target and far better than last years disastrous 82% (343 against 417 before WNW extension). :)

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Our rainwater is used only for WC flushing. WCs are certainly not the type with a double push button on front; just a handle. I think it flushes a little longer if you hold handle down rather than letting go quick but I'm not absolutely certain on that.

Two @home is correct. Occasional visitors of course.

Briefly, the savings offered by commercial rainwater harvesting installations probably don't give an acceptable %ROI. I make it work by using recycled components where possible. In particular IBCs (one cubic metre plastic tanks on a pallet) can sometimes be acquired for pennies - if nobody else viewing that well known auction site wants one at the same time as you do.

Thanks for the insight into water harvesting.
I bought a tonne tank in a plywood pallet box about 30+ years ago.
    It cost me £10:eek:
The kids & I built a "Wendy House" out of the box by putting a pitched roof on it. Unfortunately the 1987 hurricane blew it off its pillar foundations. It was never quite the same again.
The black plastic tank that had carried the brown dye used for making cardboard, was used to line a reinforced concrete pit in the garden that functions as the second chamber of our septic tank. "Too much information "?

Anyway back on thread, yet another grey day in the Thames Estuary, birdbath still bone dry, 7kWh.

These sunshiny mornings keep helping my ESE out-perform the SSW system, today at 7am It was knocking out over a kWh....then the clouds came:(.
Still managed a respectable 9.5kWh for the ESE and 8kWh for the SSW so averaged 4.375 O's

Looks like Tunnel & I were under same clouds today. 17.93 kWh here

And rainwater tanks continue to (slightly) outpace usage. Almost up to 90% full now.

I distinctly remember you stating that your ceramic filters were so effective that the water was drinkable, and that the only reason you didn't was because you wanted to keep the mains water moving. This implies you also used it for washing, so were you deterred by the Legionella outbreaks or am I confusing you with somebody else?

Working at Frog Island today; weather was boiling, clear sky etc. Arrived home to find a mere 5.24 O's for today....
2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

    Sorry - not me !

I've never had any sort of filter in my system or used water for anything but WC flushing.
